The guy hasn't even started what equates to a full season yet... they don't even know if he can really handle the playoffs, especially with what happened after last year against Seattle. Tom Brady had to wait until he won two superbowls to get a $60 million contract. Now I like Romo, but I think there is a little proving he has to do before he's getting paid like one of the top QB's in the NFL... this actually might hurt his progression, but it might not. I still feel like they should of waited until after the postseason to see how he performed. What about you guys?

I agree that it seems a bit excessive at first, but that's the price for a decent qb nowadays. Look at Jamarcus Russell's contract! 61 million, and he hasn't even taken a snap yet! Romo has guided a team to the playoffs, and he's shown a lot of potential in doing so. He has had some very, very bad games, but he has also shown that he can be very, very good. Plus, if Brady or Manning were getting a new contract this year, it would be way above that. Furthermore, if they had waited until after the season, chances are his price tag would just keep going up because Dallas should finish the season with 12 or more wins, and make a deep playoff run.

Consider this - Leonard Davis, a guard who is really not that good, got a 49.6 million dollar contract. If you're giving that to a guard who is MAYBE one of the top 15 guards in the NFL, you're going to have to give one of the top 10 (or even 5) qb's much, much more.

Well I think he did prove himself last year in the playoffs. The goof he made had nothing to do with him being a successful NFL QB it was a poor hold on a field goal attempt which he will never have to do again.

I am glad to see the Cowboy's lock him up and not wait until the end of the year and use the Franchise Tag on him, which incidentally would have be for a considerable more salary. He is good enough to be the starter for the Cowboys and if you are good enough for that then you are worth that kind of money.

What they better worry about now is at least four more players: receiver Patrick Crayton, running back Marion Barber, linebacker DeMarcus Ware and defensive end Chris Canty.

Actually, his last game was his 17th game. So he has officially started for a full season. His record is 12-5. And he's already looking to break most of Troy Aikman's records. This is also the first franchise-worthy quarterback the Cowboys have had in like 6 seasons. And now that the Boys have one, the rest of team will do nothing but build around him even more than they already have. They have at least 6 years. And look destined to become a dynasty once again. Well worth the money spent.

All you have to do is watch Romos skills and you can see he is for real.

Sure, just like many QBs over time he can have some very off days, its his gunslinger mentality. But if you look at all his starts, only 1 or 2 have been "BAD". His only sub par game this year he actually had the poise to come back and lead his team to victory in the last few mins.

This was a no brainer contract IMO. He is going to be a star for years to come.

It was completely Jerry Jones' decision, and I'm okay with it, yeah, he probably should've had to wait a little longer, and I wouldn't give him crap about the Seattle game, he has more than made up for it, and everyone makes mistakes. And at NFL.com they're considering him on of the top QBs, I read an article and they considered him to be in the top 5 QBs in the NFL.

That's just the kind of business man Jerry Jones is.

As for Tom Brady. He was under a contrat prior to getting his mega contract unlike Romo who is would be a free agent.

pay in professional sports is just way out of whack. at no point can you say any of those players are worth anything resembling the contracts they are being paid. it is out of control. i'd rather see a huge cut in ticket price. if it is $50 for a one game seat, cut that to $5. it would seem that $6 million would still attract those same athletes.... what else are they going to do... sell cars or hock insurance?

He isn't going to live up to that contract. He might reach the 6th year then will be out of the NFL.
