Now that the MLB baseball season is over, the sale of the Chicago Cubs will take center stage. One of baseball's most storied franchises is worth around $600 million to $1 billion depending upon who you ask.

In another thread, one poster mentioned that Commissioner Bud Selig and Jerry Reinsdorf (principal owner of the Chicago Bulls and the Chicago White Sox) would try and block Mark Cuban, the owner of the Dallas Mavericks, from becoming the next owner of the Cubs.

I know Cuban's been a pain in the butt to guys like NBA Commissioner David Stern, who's fined Cuban on numerous occasions, but if no one with at least some Chicago ties steps forward to buy the Cubs, then I don't see why an offer from Cuban wouldn't at least receive fair consideration.

Most if not all of the most recent sales of major league baseball teams have won the unanimous approval of all 30 owners.

The only exception was the sale of the Washington Nationals to Ted Lerner. Baltimore owner Peter Angelos was the lone holdout in a 29-1 approval.

According to MLB rules, a three fourths majority of the 30 owners is required to approve the sale of a team.

I think it would be great for the sport if Cuban could buy a team. Especailly in the National League where they are dominated by the big pockets of the American League teams. The National league has a ton of young stars but once they mature the American League buys them. Cuban would bring some excitement to a dull Cubs organization and to the league in general.

Mark Cuban would destroy the Cubs. Anyone who thinks he would somehow turn this team into a winner without raising ticket prices through the roof has no idea.
He won't get the Cubs - and not because Reinsdorf. It is because at least half the other owners in the league already have semi-publicly stated they would say no.
Cuban is a reality tv show clown. His antics at basketball games alone make owners say no. You would think he turned Dallas into the Lakers or Bulls or Celtics by the way people fawn over him. He has won ZERO titles. He is a clown like Donald Trump.
He would be bad for the Cubs. They are a storied franchise. They need to be run with dignity and respect. Cuban would do neither.

He might do it, I don't know for sure, but he just might. Even through you didn't ask, I wouldn't even pay 10 cents for the Chicago Cubs, and even for that much money I wouldn't even own them. But are the Chicago Cubs even worth all that money? Now is the time to answer this question, on who is going to pony up the dough to buy the Chicago Cubs, and who might or might not Bud Selig allow to buy the Chicago Cubs, and how will the Chicago Cubs welcome thier new owner? An when will the Chicago Cubs be sold, all these questions that have yet to be answered? But I don't see Jerry Reinsdorf changes his alliance, and buying the Chicago Cubs.

Reinsdorf, in particular, despises Mark Cuban.

Reinsdorf has a lot of influence, so yes, it would not be a surprise at all to ultimately see the majority of the owners band together and reject an application for Cuban to buy the Cubs franchise.

Mark Cuban brings awareness to the sport, just look at the NBA. I think Stern actually likes him because of all the publicity he gets. It takes away from all the real negative publicity the NBA has been getting. I think he would be good for MLB and the Cubs. He spends and wants a winner.

Mark Cuban is a silver spoon fed douche bag. Bud Selig is basically a douche bag and MLB is greater suited off without him. as much as now as A-Rod is going, i became into so happy while the Yanks picked him up in spite of the great settlement deal. that's what the yanks do they spend their money to attempt and prepare a championship team. Its worked 27 circumstances, the main via far in any professional interest. the previous few years A-Rod has no longer submit the numbers we choose him to, he has replace into greater of an high priced boat anchor. Dragging the Yanks down. i understand there is greater problems than him, eg. pitching yet while we've been out of that settlement we would extremely loosen the rope around our neck. pay him off, discover him to blame, i individually do no longer care in basic terms do away with him. in case you seem at his numbers over the previous few years i do no longer think of the PED's have been working. maybe he ought to circulate back to the broker he had in severe college. hiya Bud Selig, enable Pete Rose back in baseball!! He did no longer use drugs, he had a ailment--playing.

I could see them trying to get some owners together on this but I do not see them getting 25% of the owners rejecting him; they need a revenue surge in Baseball and Cuban will bring that, with the exception of a few owners most would welcome someone to bring a surge of revenue. I think it would be a win win for baseball to have him as an owner.

It would not be up to Bud Selig and Bud Selig alone. I believe that a new owner has to be approved by the rest of the current owners by some percentage. I think it is 75 % but I'm not quite sure.
