No they are not. But, leave it to clueless, ignorant fools to refer to being gay as a "lifestyle". Well, I'm single, and still gay. So, How am I leading a lifestyle? I'm not. My sexual orientation is not something I can peel away. It's apart of my like my skin, nails, hair, teeth, etc.

There are gay transgendered, but, yes it's different. But the gay community embraces all sexual and physical minority.

I am gay not only when I have sex, but, 24 hours a day 365 days a year. I am gay. That's what I am. Gay does not equate sex. They are not in no way comparable. However, i you view homosexuality as a behavior, a 'lifestyle' like vacationing in Cancun, then I can see how you owuld state homosexuality and polygamy are basically the same.

2007-10-30 04:24:18 · update #4

If i was un-able to have sex, or have sexual feelings, I would still be emotionally attracted to guys. Not girls.

2007-10-30 04:25:08 · update #5

Basically, what it boils down to, is that those that compare homosexuality to polygamy, they only see homosexuality as a behavior. Not a real person. Much like somebody who drinks a lot, or uses drugs, etc. It's a "way" of life. A chosen way of life.

2007-10-30 04:28:33 · update #6

Topher, yes it is. It's illegal, and when peopel state that the two are comparable, it really bothers me. They are not. You are not born polygamy. I never woke up and decided to venture into "the gay".

Sowtunes, does your heterosexuality prohibt you from walking down the street openly with your girlfriend? Does it prohibt you from getting married and having kids? Does your heterosexuality get you possibly killed, outcasted, disowned by your family, beaten, fired from your job? If it does, then come see me.

2007-10-30 04:58:50 · update #8

I am not consenting with anybody and oddly enough - I'm still gay! go figure.

2007-10-30 04:59:33 · update #9

my homosexuality is very important to me, by the way.

2007-10-30 05:00:04 · update #10

and i wish i could be public and openly affectionate, but, i have to watch for a bat that may swing towards my head moments later.

2007-10-30 05:00:57 · update #11

well showtunes, until i am granted the same respect - then we will always be be seperated. Sorry. Butm see, you have no idea what I am even tlakijng aobut because you can't relate to the expiences I have gone through or other gay peopel have gone through because you're not gay. And, the same with me. I'm sure if I were straight, I would see no problem with it as well and just make general comparisons about homosexuality to other random lifestyles. Because, I simply don't understand.

2007-10-30 05:16:49 · update #12

and i will never focus on other issues, because nothing was ever progressed with regards to civil rights when people looked to "other" issues or, essentially, turned a blind eye or, "got over it".

2007-10-30 05:18:02 · update #13

because if you don't know, these marriage bans don't just take away my marriage rights, but they effect my tax breaks, health insurance, or whatever else the anti-gay groups want to secretly put inside these banning proposals like, say, gays are not legally protected under the law.

Nothing to compare other than the word "lifestyle". I'm with you....my sexual orientation is built in me and cannot be peeled away. Homosexuality and paedophilia comparisons bug me more!!! D'n'D

It more bothers me when some idiot tries to say that all gay people are sexual deviants, who rape children and drink their blood, ect or that it is a defect that makes us gay, or that we can "pray away the gay". The whole polygamy thing is really not a big deal at this point in time.
-Anyone with half a brain can see the differences of polygamy and being gay, I think you are making a big deal out of a really stupid comparison that is only made by trolls and jackasses. Calmness is a good thing.

No, Dearest, it doesn't, because I then make them think about polygamy *and* polyandry (which is women having multiple husbands -- a much nicer way to go for some Ladies). It's a bit like being Bisexual, which is also discriminated against within our own culture.
Polygamy has gotten such a bad reputation with the cults out West and in the Middle East yet it has survived for a reason. I'm not saying it couldn't be brought up to date with rights for the Ladies (big time) but not to compare it to homosexuality when both are a taboo subject at this time is rather silly, my Darling.
I know it bothers you. Rape and Abuse bothers me. Continue to rant and work against it. Love you.

I find the intellectual sloppiness of it slightly annoying but it's not all that surprising. It appears that a lot of folks just tend to lump together everything which isn't heterosexual monogamy into one basket. So in the minds of many homosexuality and polygamy *are* comparable, along with bestiality, BDSM, whatever.

You're not talking about rational thought but then again most thought isn't rational. If you think most thought is rational then may I be the first to welcome you to Yahoo! Answers, where you'll soon read enough questions to be disabused of that notion.

I'm not bothered by it as much as I can't understand why some people would see that there would be some kind of comparison to begin with. Polygamy is usually one man with many wives.

2007-10-30 12:08:22 · answer #5 · answered by Anonymous · 1 0

They are comparable to some degree.

Both are merely your bedroom/family life and are not the business of the gov't or any other people as long as theyre exclusive to consenting adults.

Neither is wrong in any way unless someone is being taken advantage of or abused, the same as for any other relationship.
___
"Basically, what it boils down to, is that those that compare homosexuality to polygamy, they only see homosexuality as a behavior. Not a real person. Much like somebody who drinks a lot, or uses drugs, etc. It's a "way" of life. A chosen way of life."

I disagree with this. I just think that your homosexuality is not an overly important part of your life as far as Im concerned. I dont see where my heterosexuality is in any way your business, nor do I see where my polygamy is your business. It is simply and issue of public vs. private life. I support equal rights, but that means actual equality to allow all people to have the relationship they would like as long as all parties involved are rational consenting adults.
__

No it doesnt. Nor should your homosexuality affect any of that. My polygamy has gotten me shunned by friends, gotten me a hate letter or two, but nothing other than that. Is that right?
Youre not understanding my point though. I'll happily fight for equal rights, but I have trouble understanding why the fight is even needed. I dont see why yours or my sexual preference matters to anyone else unless theyre wanting to get involved in bedroom activities.

You say that youre a gay person. I say otherwise. As far as Im concerned youre a person-nothing else matters in that respect. If you were assaulted walking down the street for being gay Id be right there putting a stop to it, but Id do likewise for anyone else being assaulted for any reason.

To quote Ayn Rand in a way that would have her **** a brick, "Under the skin we are all brothers, and I for one would be willing to skin humanity to prove it."

All Im saying is that we need to stop focusing on the whole issue and focus on the people. This is more the case for my side unfortunately-we're more likely to be the intolerant ones, but the first step to tolerance has always been a focus on the similarities and not worrying so much about unimportant differences.
___

Youre still not grasping what Im trying to say. Unfortunately its hard to type when you keep getting interrupted by work--sorry if Im unclear.

I actively fight for equal rights. However my eventual goal is a world where we acknowledge that things like sexual preference and polygamy arent anyone's business. They should be allowed because their a personal relationship. You cant legally marry your lover, fine. I cant legally marry in a group even though its the way we live. The gov't would keep any odd numbered person from getting the same tax advantages.

Think about it this way. You fight for a world where gays have equal rights. I fight for a world where no one even cares that youre gay. You strive for a world of equality for you and your kind. I strive for a world with full equality-a world where we acknowledge that we are not morally obligated to our neighbors in any way. I want a world where my rights really dont stop until they bump into someone else's--the way it used to be and the way it should be again.
You say I dont understand. I say youre a closet bigot who would be happy for something else, like polygamy, to take the place of scorn that homosexuality holds with so many people today. Its your choice, fight for yourself or fight for everyone.

Polygamy bothers me, but polyamorous does not. I have yet to figure out if that is something someone is born with or not.

What bothers me more is being compared to transgendered -- isn't that an ENTIRELY different ballpark? I am sure it bothers those who are transgendered as well!

2007-10-30 11:20:34 · answer #7 · answered by Anonymous · 1 0

it should. i'm not gay, but it totally should.

i DO think, however, it's based on some truth in the PAST....i just don't understand why hetero relationships don't have the same scrutiny, since the 70s/80s were a wild ride for you; whoever you wanted to be with in bed! lol

Yes it does in a way to me there is just no comparison between the two

2007-10-30 11:25:38 · answer #9 · answered by Jon 4 · 0 0

I've not actually heard them being compared to each other.

I wouldn't even think of them as comparable, one is life, the other is lifestyle.

What does annoy me is when polygamy and swinging are compared.
