Remove the recently loaded programmes. And re load the operating system.

Some good answerers here - One very bad one.

NEVER - NEVER reformat your drive as a first resort to a problem. That is ALWAYS the option of last resort if all other repair attempts fail to work.

Reformating to get rid of a virus, or driver problem is like using a sledge hammer to squash a gnat. It works, but is a very messy solution.

It is quite possible that you have had one of two things happen,

You installed a new program or update that turned off the standby and hibernate modes.

You have saved enough files, or installed new files, which have decreased you available space on the hard drive below the minimum required to use these modes. Both require a large file section on the hard drive to store the current settings when you go into the mode. This file is used by windows when you wake up the computer, to put back all the screens and settings that you had when you put the computer to sleep. If you see that the modes are turned off, and you can not enable them; check the available space on your hard drive to see if you have run out. A fragmented drive, from removing many small files, can also cause the problem. Run the de-fragment program from the System Tools folder.
