I once heard that children should be encouraged to wash their own clothes when they were tall enough to reach the knobs on the washing machine and dryer.
I know some parents won't even let kids do these types of chores because they're afraid that they'll do it wrong. But sometimes you just have to let them make mistakes so they'll learn.

How mature are we talking? !3, 16, 18? That makes a big difference on the answer.If they are able to work, children should get jobs to help buy things they want plus teach them responsibility.
