It believes in the destruction of the family, the inate inferiority of men, the abolition of marriage and that men by instinct wish to dominate and suppress women.

"Since marriage constitutes slavery for women, it is clear that the Women's Movement must concentrate on attacking this institution. Freedom for women cannot be won without the abolition of marriage" - Sheila Cronan

On the other hand, figures such as Christina Hoff Sommers and Camille Paglia identify themselves as feminist but accuse the movement of anti-male prejudice. - Wikipedia

In response to Tracey's intelligent and incisive reply - you do not have to 'hang about the GWS board' in order to post a question on the subject. Secondly - nothing I have written 'made up'. All of it has been stated, written down, and argued, by feminists. I will concede that it does not have the blessings of all feminists, but if it is not evil, then it is surely bankrupt, with so many of its members presenting such a misrepresentation - if it is really a misrepresentation.

You are using examples of extreme or radical feminism. When women first started to fight for their rights and equality in society they probably had to be far more extreme to even have their voices heard. Now a days we take it for granted that we can vote, go to work, own property etc. and so the fight does not have to be as strong, although I still believe that we must not take things for granted and need to continue to raise awareness of women's rights. Men and women are totally different but do deserve to be treated equally in terms of pay, position in society etc.. We still have a long, long way to go though as women are under represented in positions of power in our society - how many prime minsters and presidents are women, how many CEOs, MPs, etc.?? very few!

Most of the ills of our western society can be traced back to the growth of feminism, teenage pregnancies, family breakdown etc etc.
Originally feminism set out to give women equal choice and opportunity. That I don't think is arguable by any reasonable person.
Unfortunately after WW2 the movement was hi-jacked and used to create the current ideology that women must be independent and have a career. That was never the aim.
The aim was to give them the choice. Now women have lost the choice of whether to work or not because the current ideology was created to force women back into the workplace because, due to all the men killed in the war, there was a strong upward pressure on wages.
The industrial revolution for the first time gave women the choice of whether they worked or not, because for the first time a man could earn enough to keep the whole family.
Feminism has been brutally abused to make sure that choices no longer exist for most families. Most women now work from economic necessity.
Recently we have seen the same upward pressure on wages. This time there aren't any women to use to increase the workforce and drive wages down.
This time they have "lost control" of our borders allowing cheap immigrant labour to flood in.
Feminism isn't evil but what has been done in it's name is!

I laugh when I read comments from girls who are 18 and are quoting from Wikipedia, or some blog site. Get real. If you are an 18 year old female in college, you have not lived in the real world yet. You have never met a real feminist.
Protest, do have real feminist it. I have met real feminist. They are not kind people.
Feminism cost me my civil rights in the United States. I have no civil rights because women wanted to kick me out of every single place in this country instead of co-existing with me.
The same with Black people.
Why? My skin is white, and I'm a male.
I had outstanding grades in school. Every liberal wanted to take my head off.

Hmm, sounds a little crazy. I would say that bashing feminism though, is a clever way of trying to convince people that women were better off without it. Even the most idiotic of quotes that some feminists have made will not convince me that things were better off without having any options as a female. As a man, what would it be worth to you to keep your options, decisions, your freedom? For most females, we think it's worth a few kooky women who had to scream too loud in order to be heard and came out sounding a little nuts.

That isn't feminism. Feminism is the belief that gender shouldn't be an issue in equality, and the study of overcoming the imbalance. They recognize our society is patriarchal, or male dominated, which is undeniable. All presidents were male, we take the last name of the groom, women go from Miss to Mrs., but men stay Mr., etc. True feminist in the academic sense of the world just want "half the pie".
What you are describing are militant feminist, which is a somewhat different philosophy.

No, it doesn't. Only misandry upholds all of these principles. Feminism seeks to work with men to achieve equality and not infringe upon anyone's rights. It also seeks to reform marriage and the family to make it more equitable, even if some feminists (like myself) don't wish to partake in it.

Well there's nothing quite like setting something up just so you can knock it down again. Most of us got over that stage of development at around age 2 - I guess you're just a late developer...

No. Just misused sometimes.
There is one extreme that believes men are basically superior to females, and there is the other that believes the opposite. One needs to achieve a balance, that's all.
Its like saying religion is evil....
Think about it!

I haven't got all that from feminism. Despite all of our equal opportunities legislation women are still under-represented in politics and senior business positions. They are hugely the most likely to suffer abuse in a relationship and from sexual assault from a stranger.
Of course feminists make very provocative statements as they are determined to challenge domineering attitudes from men and submissive attitudes from women. I'm not surprised that some of them get angry.
I doubt they'd get too far with women challenging marriage directly but they certainly have a point in challenging how we see women's role in marriage or partnership.
