The harshest truth of the world is that every single being (human and animal) is selfish is nature. Every action of man is for the benefit of self.
Such sugar-coating of reality is simply for mankind to FEEL good and acts as a false sense of security in an otherwise harsh and chaotic environment. This sugar-coating will only render one to be ignorant and oblivious to the complexities and dangers in life.

The harsh truth about the World (and the Universe) is simply that it doesn't give a rats αss about you or about what happens to you. Reality is a dog-eat-dog affair and, if you don't like it, go off somewhere and die. Yes, there are exceptions (called 'family' and 'friends') who -do- care. But they're a very small minority of the total World.
If an asteroid hit the Earth and killed us off (as happened to the Dinosaurs some 65 million years ago), the rest of the Universe would still go on ticking away just as it is right now. Our going would be no more noteworthy than was that of the dinosaurs.

We are born we live we die. The harsh reality of this is nothing we can do about it. The opportunity of life is to make someone elses life better by doing acts of random kindness and to treat others like we ourselves would want to be treated. The only way to sugar coat it is to use the crutches of religion, excuses, guilt or blame. Life is for living, life is for dying and one life is all we have. Use it wisely As someone once said we are dead a long time.

Mankind is greedy.
We don't sugar coat reality, just give it a different name. Aren't we taught that it is fine to raise our expectations, to be competetive, go for a better job paying more money but really just reproducing inequality? Look at the Royal family. How many supporters are there for them, yet they are a prime example of privilege and inequality. Not sugar coated just accepted as the way things are.

There is no harsh truth of the world.
The reality is what our opinions make of it and what we are feeling right now, our influences and how we are educated and chose to think and be!
Its not the earth, the environment, the places that are bad, its the people that live in it!

The harsh truth is very evident in these responses; people have lost their faith. Faith in the Lord and his word. Why is the world this way? The Lord lays it out in a very straightforward way. You turn your back on me, and I will turn my back on you. And this is the end result. Not everyone will understand, or maybe roll their eyes while reading this, but if everyone had faith and truly believed and took the time to READ THE BIBLE FOR THEMSELVES then this wouldn't be an issue. Read the King James Version, not the new stuff floating around. It's the best decision you'll ever make.

That we are an isolated biological anomaly formed on a remote planet on the outer edges of a minor galaxy. We have existed for a split second of geological time and will vanish into the dust of space from whence we came. Even our solar system will eventually vanish as have countless millions of others as the shape of the universe evolves. Our history, our learning and our understanding is infinitesimal in the great vault of space.
It might just be possible that the human race might one day escape this Earth and colonise space then to look upon Earth as the nursery of intelligent life. Personally I hope so but it would be a pity if man's best friend couldn't go with him!

Yes, we all try our hardest to sugar coat the realities. No one wants to admit that there is no God to watch out for us, we only have each other. Chance rules the universe and there is no bias toward humankind, stuff just happens. The good news is that this means that you, me and everyone else on Earth are completely free! There is no right or wrong (aside from basic golden rule morality). You don't have to change who you are to be accepted into any type of afterlife...this is it! Do your best to make the most of this time you have here, and do it without shame or guilt.

reality is harsh, cruel we sugar coat the truth for children then when we believe they are old enough we rip the sweet comfort of our lies away maybe if we all told the truth we would be more happy with reality instead of chasing after the lies of our childhood.

I dont believe reality is sugar coated, I believe that whoever you get your imformation from it is slanted twords one side or the other. Like if your talking to a republican the truth about something is going to have a right leaning slant, and if your talking to a democrat, the story about the exact same stroy leans the other way.
It's like that with everything, not just democrat republican, it's like that with almost everything.
However, there are a few absolutle truths, that are the way they are, and are not subject to debate.
