Not everyone !!
It's just a reputation they got long ago for rough tough play and Al Davis picking up some players who for whatever reason did not work out with other teams and gave them a second chance . Most responded with great play .
AS for their fans , they are rabid, loyal and some act really wild but they also showed me that they have class .
When Brett Favre's father died and he beat the Raiders with four touchdown passes the Raider fans gave him a standing ovation after the game . I believe it was compassion for his loss and because he's the kind of tough player that the Raiders love.

Back in "the day" (70's -early 80's) every team had its share of bad-asses, but The Raiders always had the most and the "worst", especially when they were in Oakland. Kenny Stabler, John Matuzak, Otis Sistrunk, et. al., these guys used to party WITH the fans at local bars and hangouts all the time. You would NEVER see that today. They built a following of an extremely loyal fan base, and even when they moved to LA it stuck. To me, they were always Oakland.
The fact is that everyone loves to hate the Raiders, (especially when they were winning), and I love to be hated or even chided as a fan. Probably for the same reason why I hate the 49er's, and the Broncos, and the Chargers, and the Chiefs, and the Bills, and the F-ing Patriots (it was a fumble). I don't care if the Raiders suck, I am always a fan.

I'm a Raider fan and have wondered the same thing, none of our players are "thug life", as I like to call it. Just about every Raider I have ever heard talk sounds very well educated. I agree with some of the other people, who said it is because of the fans, we have quite a few "thug life" fans, or at least posers who want to be, which is just as bad. Everyone likes to talk about Al Davis, maybe it is because of the fact that, he takes care of all his players, even after they are retired. O' and all the players actually respect him!!

Not everyone thinks that, only the mindlessly ignorant. There are still people out there that don't understand the concept of education. They prefer to go through life spouting off gibberish because its easier than learning some facts. Right Borat and BulldogBitch. Now there is a pair of philosophers.

It's a cheap shot and not true (except for the filming, which every team did), but here are the reasons...
- Holdover reputation for rough play and cheap shots from the 1970's
- Black and silver uniforms
- They are the 'raiders' (and not the Cowboys, Broncos, Patriots etc.)
PS - I am not an Oakland fan

Because 90% of the fans are either convicted of or wanted for a violent felony crime. Same for the team, the raiders are just good at covering it up. Plus the fans represent the raiders image as well.

The worst that Raiders players can be accused of is trash talking on the field, and everyone does that.

the raiders are no longer "arrested" because they are on work release. they are brought over from the state pen on sunday morning, and taken back sunday afternoon/evening. there is no time for them to commit a crime to get arrested.

History. They got that reputaion in the 70's for being rough and giving cheap shots. Then they were the team that would pick up players who were in trouble with the law and ditched by other teams.
Now the biggest team of criminals is the engals.
