That's his perogative. I wish him the best. Joe should be a good fit for them, though he'll probably be taking a huge pay cut no matter where he goes. That's not to say that he's doing it for the money, because Joe could make a lot more money doing other stuff like corporate speaking.

I think for the Los Angeles Dodgers that this is the best thing that could happen to them since Tommy Lasorda ran the club. Plus you're getting a premier former player (Don Mattingly) along with Torre. Not to deflate the job that Grady Little has done as he's been their best manager since Lasorda, but he lacked that essence that Torre had for 12 years in NY to make a winner out of a hopeful contender.

It's obvious that by choosing Girardi, that the Yankees went with experience and not popularity. Girardi was the NL's Manager of the Year and then gets fired by an organization that I feel has no clue what they are doing to begin with. And though I love and respect Don Mattingly, I have to agree with the decision that upper management has made.

However, the issue here has now become one of great impact to the Yankees organization. Torre's leaving coupled with Girardi being hired as manager will mean the loss of Don Mattingly in pinstripes on the bench.

The announcement was made this morning (10/30/07), that the Los Angeles Dodgers will most likely fire Grady Little as manager and hire not only Torre as team manager, but Mattingly will come over as Torre's assistant on the bench.

When you add A-Rod's opt out of his contract to this, along with the possibility that neither Pettitte, Clemens, Posada, and Rivera will not be in a Yanks uniform in '08, there are long-range implications that the Yankees will be rebuilding for several years again, and may drop off the radar as far as being a contender is concerned.

Just some food for thought in answer to your question.

you have pronounced all of it my pal. all of us be responsive to that Joe Torre became between the main suitable managers available, and confident, we've been spoiled by him, getting us to the playoffs each and every 300 and sixty 5 days, and getting us to the international sequence 6 circumstances and winning it 4 circumstances. however the no longer undemanding reality is that we cant anticipate Girardi to have an analogous impressive beginning up. we are able to anticipate him to do nicely, yet no longer as great as Joe Torre. there is entirely one Joe Torre. i'm hoping that Joe Torre does rather nicely in la. ideally i could want the international sequence to be between the Yankees and the dodgers. (of direction i could want the Yankees to win interior the tip, besides the fact that if it would be impressive for him to make it that some distance.) I want Joe (the two Torre and GIrardi) the better of success.

Maybe a change of scenery will give Joe that spark that he lost in New York. The Dodgers have a good team and they need a manager that could keep them motivated and Joe sometimes does not deliver in that department.

Good luck to Joe Torre.

A team with supposedly 25 All-Stars needed motivating? That's a pretty poor reflection on the players that the owner decided to break a few banks for, right?

Maybe Torre should have created a cheer to fire up the troops.

Stein-brenners, Stein-brenners, RAH RAH RAH!
Rule our souls and SIS BOOM BAH!
Be it George...or Hank...or Hal
Stein-brenners, Stein-brenners, theys our pal!

(Bad poetic gift there...that, alone, would've been enough to justify a firing) :-o

It would probably be a good fit, but Joe will want to stay in the American League I would think, but money talks and Joe still has a few good years left. Godd possobility.

not a yankees fan, but as a s.f. fan i think the change from the a.l. to the n.l. will be tough for him, so more power to the dodgers.

Not a Yankee fan, but I hope he enjoys it and does well. I hear he also got Guidry too. Good for him.
