We're moving across town (about 15 miles away) in about a month and I was wondering what your favorite moving tips are.

First figure out what you will need for your first night (and the next morning) at the new home and pack them all in one box and keep it where you can get to it...this way you won't have to dig through the countless boxes to find things.. If you have kids, it will be even more stuff. You will definitely need sheets for the bed...a change of clothes for the next day, toiletries (toothbrush, etc), alarm clock, dishes (just a few for dinner or breakfast...maybe a small frying pan) a couple of utensils...some basic food needs....(maybe stop at the store and get some milk and bread, etc). I have found that it is a good idea to have basic cleaning supplies handy....paper towels, windex, dust rag....for cleaning an area before you unpack. It also might be a good idea to have a couple of DVDs handy to watch before the cable is hooked up. If you have a cell phone, have your charger handy so you don't run out of battery before your home phone is hooked up.

When you pack mark the box in BIG LETTERS what room the box goes in so that as you empty the truck you can sort it into the proper room.

Especially if it is raining the day you move, put a few towels (don't forget to put them in your "first day" box) or some cardboard down on the floor at the entry way so all the walking in and out unloading won't track in so much dirt.

Those things really helped when I moved...hope the help you....

Good Luck

Use garbage bags to pack clothing and anything that doesn't HAVE to go in a box. This will lessen your time packing and the bags are easier to pick up and carry than boxes are.

Label the boxes with brief description of contents.
