The use of several different sources of information is usually a more general perspective and more accepted since there is usually a consensus on just about every issue in psychology. Providing different angles on the subject gives a wider objectivity with which others can understand and work with. We all must objectify reality but none of us see it the same way.

i suggest books that talk about sigmund freud himself... the psychoanalytical perspective is a bit complex so you might not be able to get freud's point when you just read other psychology books... you could also check out the book called 'theories of personality' - hall, lindzey, campbell...
freud has his own way of defining his concepts... you could understand the perspective better if you really base it on freud's works...
