For you, your children/family from ebay or charity shops. I do when I can't find any at a reasonable price in the shops and my sister was disgusted, surely as long as you wash them it's ok, isn't it

Yes I do and I save allot of money by doing so, My children have good quality clothing that lasts them well, but I only pay a fraction of the cost if I would if it was new.
I love auction websites, I sometimes sell what I buy and sometimes I make a profit!
I also buy second hand clothes for myself.

I also buy clothes from sale websites and I cannot remember the last time I paid full price for something!
Shop around and you can find some excellent bargains, I have just paid £63 for 21 piece of clothing for my 3 children (6,7 +9) on a web site sale pages of all new clothing and excellent quality, a few even well named sports brands!

Second hand clothes are usually washed and/or dry cleaned before they are sold. That "second hand clothing smell" is often disinfectants sprayed on the clothes or used in the wash. I buy many second hand things, from bales of un-wearables for their fabric to wearable vintage pieces that aren't available anywhere else. My last big find was a coat like the one worn by Kate Hudson in the movie "Almost Famous" and the fit was perfect. The place that sells bales has a huge dry cleaning machine on site and two smaller washing machines which are in constant use. Things that stink or don't come clean are sent away to the rag shop and not sold as wearables. There's no reason to be disgusted, throwing away good clothes just because they are old is far more disgusting to me.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with 2nd hand clothing as long as it's washed. I don't get all my clothes from charity shops but sometimes you can find a real vintage gem or trendy highstreet clothes for 1/2 the price.
If your sister wants to spend a fortune on clothing, that's her business but I don't see anything wrong with what you're doing, at least your money is going to a good cause.

Yeah, i buy them you find now that most charity shops only put out clean good condition clothes. I do tend to have a good look around cos often people chuck out clothes just worn a few times and don't want last seasons stuff.

There is nothing wrong with thrift shopping. You would be amazed at the items donated from area retail stores like JC Penny, Goody's etc. You may find things with tags still on them! Even if there aren't tags thrift stores offer good clothing that has been gently worn for very reasonable prices! Don't be ashamed. Be proud!

Yes, if you go to the charity shops in an affluent area you can pick up really expensive (hardly worn) labels for next to nothing. I do always wash before wearing though and I wouldn't buy swimwear or underwear.

Of course it's ok. Look at all those rich people that spend all that money on "vintage" clothing...ain't that just a nice way of saying second hand? Especially for children. Before my son was born I went on a rampage looking for clothes, I found loads half of them were either brand new or had hardly been worn, a bargin! and they grow so fast anyway i'd say it's worth it especially when they're still young, rather than throw away something that's brand new and expensive.

Charity shops are great for picking up bargains, I got my winter coat in one this year, it was only £10.00 and still had the £70.00 Next tag on it, I often find jeans, tops in there for my family and they dont mind. The clothes get a wash when I get home.

I was brought up on "thrift" store clothing and it never bothered me but then again I didn't know any better. I will not buy from goodwill now but I do still buy from consignment shops you pay a little more but it is worth it. I bought a 100.00 Armani Exchange peasant top for 12.00. I have also bought many name brand shoes and tops like Abercrombie, American Eagle, and Hollister. It's never bothered me and no one but me knows anyway. I do however wash everything I buy in extremely hot water before wearing it.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with buying second hand clothes. Many consignment shops and thrift stores, even ebay, have great clothing for a fraction of the cost. Who cares if they are used? If they still look great and you can get them for a steal, then I say "go for it"!
