Romeo + Juliet. Classic example.
Moulin Rouge - just about my favourite movie.
Titanic - sorry to ruin the end since someone may not have seen it. Haha.
Atonement - one of the best movies of the year.
Shadowlands.
Love and War - true story about Ernest Hemmingway.
Doctor Zhivago - soooo tragic.
Hamlet (any version).
The Lives of Others.
In The Mood For Love.
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.
Wings of Desire or City of Angels.
Brazil.
Annie Hall.
Devdas.
Chinatown.
enough?

they weren't lovers really but it was slightly romantic. The end is pretty sad

If your looking for a comedy where they don't get eachother in the end I would suggest "The Break Up" with Jennifer Aniston.

Dang, astrogirl beat me to it. I agree with Swept Away. A lot of critics panned it but I thought it had some charm to it... until the end of course. I didn't expect that.

The beautiful and sad Moulin Rouge. Satine (Nicole Kidman) dies in the end and Christian (Ewan McGregor) is alone.

A lot of people were disappointed at the ending of "My Best Friend's Wedding".

"Remains of the Day"
