Hello everyone. I am currently 22 yrs old and pregnant with my first baby=] Besides not getting enough sleep and having a bigger budget, what else will happen (something life-changing) after my son comes? Also after I have him I'd like to get on birth control for a while (pills) until I'm ready to conceive again. How long does it take for bc to get out of your system and for me to have a normal period? In other words after I stop taking the pill how long do I have to wait until I can conceive again? Thanks so much for answering!

Good questions...

What life changing this will happen after you bring home your little boy? EVERYTHING!!! You will see everything in the world differently. I know I sure did! You have NO idea how much love you can really have for someone until you see that little angel for the first time. I thought my heart was going to burst!

As for the birth control question...I was on bc pills for over 7 years and when my husband and I tried to get pregnant with Jacob it took us 3 months. Our Dr. told us to have sex once a day every other day to give us the best chance...and we did and it worked!! After Jacob was born I went back on the pill and now we are working on baby number 2! I have been off my pills for 2 cycles now and am still not pregnant, but we are not having sex all the time this time either...

Good luck and congratulations on your little bundle of perfection!!

Everything becomes more difficult to do, going to the store, going out to dinner, even the hours you are able to work. Your life will also be planned and revolve around this little person. You have to cancel plans when he is sick or in a bad mood.

One thing to think about when talking about birth control is whether or not you plan to breast feed. If you are breast feeding regular pills will not be an option, the mini pill is available. The only caution I have with the mini pill is that it needs to be taken exactly as prescribed, even a few hours off with this pill can cause you to get pregnant so I recommend a back up method. It also only works well as long as you are breast feeding full time, if you stop or are cutting down on feedings you need to use something else right away.

As far as how long does it take for the pill to get out of your system? it is out as soon as you stop taking it. Some women find that it takes them a few months to have regular cycles again and some are regular right away but neither means you can't get pregnant right away.

As soon as you think you are ready to stop taking/using birth control you should contact your doctor for a pre-conception visit. Most doctors like for you to be on prenatal vitamins for a while before trying to get pregnant(this is the ideal).

Good luck and congrats!!

Well I was on birth control pills for about 7 and a half years and I waited about 3 months (before I tried) to make sure all the hormones were out of my system before I conceived. I haven't had any problems (thank the Lord) and I'm 31 weeks pregnant with a little girl! My pregnancy is going great.

I think the most life changing thing about having kids is that you always have to put their needs ahead of your own. Sometimes that is big things but sometimes it is just little things that you don't think about. Like remembering that you have to fix lunch on Saturday, or just because you had a big lunch on Sunday you still need to fix something for supper that evening. (Those were both hard for me.) Because your kids see everything you do, so you have to set a good example for them all the time. As far as the birth control pills. They will usually be out of your system as soon as you stop taking them. Sometimes it takes a little while to get back into a regular cycle, but lots of people get pregnant the first month off the pill. I did. Your doctor will usually recommend that you wait a few months before trying to conceive, but that is so that it will be easier to estimate your due date.

Actually this is how Birth Control pills work: There are two basic kinds of hormonal birth control pills: (1) the combination pill which is made up of two synthetic hormones (estrogen and progestin) and (2) the progestin-only pill (sometimes called the minipill). The synthetic estrogen in the combination pill works to prevent the ovaries from releasing an egg. If no egg is released, there is nothing to be fertilized by sperm and the woman cannot get pregnant. In addition, the synthetic estrogen works by suppressing the body's normal hormonal pattern (which involves one egg being developed per menstrual cycle and released for possible fertilization). The synthetic progestin (present in both types of pills) works to: thicken the cervical mucus, which hinders the movement of sperm, inhibit the egg's ability to travel through the fallopian tubes, partially suppress the sperm's ability to unite with (and thereby fertilize) the egg, and alter the uterine lining so (in the event that an egg is released and fertilized) the egg will likely not be able to implant into the uterine wall. (A fertilized egg would then be discharged with the rest of the menstrual blood.) Although there are only two basic kinds of hormonal birth control pills, there are many different brands to choose from! The only difference between different brands of birth control pills is that they use different synthetic estrogens or progestin hormones and/or different proportions of the hormones. These two kinds of hormonal birth control (the combination formula and the progestin-only formula) are available in other forms besides pills. The combination formula is also available in the patch and vaginal ring forms. The progestin-only formula is also available in intramuscular shots (ex: Depo-Provera) and in intrauterine devices (IUDs are inserted into the uterus and can prevent pregnancy for 5 years or more). I would then think, that since there's no alleged offspring in the making, even rabid pro-lifers would allow birth controll pills. you just can't use the "morning after" pill.

Some people get pregnant immediately after stopping the pill and others take a while.

Something life changing that will happen is you will have a huge sense of purpose and feeling that somebody needs you. You will love him more than you have ever loved somebody and your greatest joy will be in him. From his first words to the first time he sings a song. You will find joy in the smallest things and you will see the world through a child's eyes again. In my opinion that is the best way to see the world.

EVERYTHING changes after you bring your son home. The little things from having time to clean the house and going to teh store to sleep and the time off work due to appointments.

As far as the birth control. I can't really tell you I have never been on the pill. Once my son was born I got an IUD. From what my friends have told me it takes 2-3 months to completely get out of your system once you quit taking it if you have been taking it a long time.

Good luck & congrats on you new bundle of joy!

A lot of things change.. The biggest change I experienced was my patience level. Before my daughter I possessed NO patience what so ever. Now, it takes a lot to actually get me mad. Also, you start thinking of things differently. You start spending your money on a new baby jumper instead of those hot shoes you say at Macy's for yourself. All in all, its a great feeling.

As for BC, the minute you stop you are EXTREMELY fertile. So be careful not to miss a pill. =)
