Anytime you are dealing with a laptop the price is very high. The usual fix is to replace the keyboard- - may as well replace the laptop. I suggest he pop off the keys (with the laptop turned off) and try using a Qtip with rubbing alcohol to gently clean around the keys. There may be something sticky that spilled which the alcohol will remove.

You can do the repairs yourself, search for the keyboard for that laptop model en ebay (they cost about $30-$50) and most of the time you only unscrew few screws and unplug the keyboard connector and voila!!!
