Thats not exactly true. Most black people do not like rap and or todays hiphop. I'm referring to the old school crowd, now some like todays music but most don't. Also many other races join in on rap listening and taking a role in rap, such as Eminem, Bubba Sparxxx, Daddy Yankee, Fat Joe, Pitbull and many others.

I'm black, I listen to a couple of todays rap songs. I'm not a gang member and i don't glorify gangs. Gang members to me are like my homie said Mislead Thugs.

You might want to re-frame your question, its like me asking you why is country music associated with white people and Ku Klux Klan members?

when rap started out, there were mainly black rappers, and now today black people are thoght of as gang members and criminals. So the public view of rap is now black gang members with money, cars, and prostetutes. It's a shame because rap music is so much more than that but that's all people want you to see. It's just another way to stereotype black people.

honestly it didn't begin with any affiliation with gang culture

some rappers are affiliated but rap is such a diverse genre

there is Christian hip hop, women MCs, acid jazz/hop, etc

i think it is just because of the mid 80s when some rap songs were about the gang violence of the 80s and some of the rappers who are affilated

oh and the fact that it is seen only as Black street music....a kind of soft racism

Because most of the rappers are black and most claim to be in gangs i guess,it also may be because black people created rap and hip hop and the black people are gang members sterio type is still ruining peoples minds.
