I was fortunate to be taught meditation at a young age.

The idea is to still your mind. Go to a state where there is no thought and be still. Easier said then done but some very subtle things happen at first, then they become more profound.

It may be good for you to find a teacher. A Yogi is a good place to look. For me I had a Baptist minister teach me. He called it quiet time. Also at the time the Beatles were into transcendental meditation, so I read up on that at the time.

With a teacher in TM, you will be given a mantra like Aum. It is a small word that you chant with your breathing and focus on. The idea is to put all focus on this one word and finally when you do that discard it and you are left in the state.

For me I chose the word love, then I moved to just the the feeling of love (with out the word), the what it felt like to be loved. I would move between these two feelings in kind of an ebb and flow way. Then I discarded the feeling and BOOM, there it was.

I hope this helps!

Blessings and peace to all,
All in all,
B

I have been able to meditate even while working. It's a gift to be able to go out of body and still function in the physical world. Before you try doing it while you are busy, teach yourself to relax your mind. Listen to some gentle music without words in the songs, or one of those meditation Cd's with babbling brooks or a crackling campfire. Get totally relaxed and take your mind to somewhere peaceful or to a time in your life where you were so happy. Think sleepy thoughts but don't fall asleep, you are almost there.

Meditation is cessation of thought! Bringing full awareness to the breath, the mind becomes still. When thoughts arise, bring the attention back to the breath!

Meditation isn't really something you can explain, it is something to be learned.

Thats all I got :)

As all meditators know, you don't do it, it does you.
TM is by far the best method for us sceptical westerners.

to be honest with you...

Light candles, turn off lights, turn on music (whatever is befitting to my mood) and smoke a "J'.

It works like a charm everytime, total mental release....

Sometimes, it's nice to do the above in a hot bath. (NO LIGHTS ON.. IT's THE 2nd MOST important part!)
