I live in Orlando so I'm not very familiar with Broward County but I can tell you that hurricanes are the biggest downfall in any part of Florida. As for anywhere else? It's best to experience it yourself and form your own opinion about pros and cons.

when I lived in South Florida, that area was either redneck or middle class elderly.

honestly, I'd stay away from living too far west of I 95.

Great weather, nice beaches and plenty to do.

Otherwise, lots of traffic and poor schools.
