Learning to control your anxiety will produce a much better solution than taking meds. Personally dealing with it in small progressive steps has allowed me to feel free, cure instead of treat! As a young child i often suffered from anxiety which resulted in sleepless nights and frustrating stressful days. I personally found that the best cure for me was meditation before bed. If I can clear my head before i go to sleep i can actually relax, sleep, and wake up feeling healthy and calm in the morning. For evenings when i just cannot seem to relax i have found that a stick of incense works really well. When purchasing incense make sure to get the ones in packages [the stuff which is exposed to the air looses it's aromatic nature and smells terrible]. Many incense companies will label their product with the effect it usually has on the body, the ones labeled meditation are good. imo, a productive nights sleep will set you up for the entire day. If you find yourself getting anxious take three seconds of personal time to get things back together. another thing which has worked well for me is concrete planned me time. when i am going through a rough period i always reserve the last hour of my day for me. No television, no family, no answering the phone, no studying [except during finals!!!], no friends,no music, just me and a clear mind. Sometimes i journal [free writing always work better than medication!!!] sometimes i read a relaxing and interactive book, while other times i draw, or spend valuable time playing with my cat. learning to control anxiety really helps the entire self.

The most popular things for general relaxation are Valerian, Chamomile, and Hops.... but some people actually wake up when they take these and are just very relaxed.
If you're looking more for sleep, there's Melatonin, L-Tryptophan, 5-HTP, Scullcap (an herb... it just sounds bad), L-Taurine, and Passionflower are all very popular to help people sleep naturally.
There are also some supplements that can help with stress and relaxation if you wanted natural help for that. There is St. John's Wort, SAMe, some B-Vitamins, GABA, Ashwagandha, and L-Theanine

Try strong chamomile tea in combination with a good back rub, and a sweaty bout of sex. I know it sounds really weird but sex relieves stress. Chamomile does calm your stomach. And the back rub relieves tension in the shoulders and back. Maybe the combination will help.

PureCalm is a natural remedy for anxiety. You can get this online (I've included the link) and I'm sure it will help. Only drawback is you'll have to wait a few days for delivery I suppose. I'm not sure if you can get this at a health store, but it's worth asking.

A better diet is indicated. No more pizza before bed would help. Calcium always is a natual way to sleep. Don`t take em right before be though. Always take them with food, a piece of dry toast perhaps. Always sit up after you eat your dinner and don`t recline. Bad for the flow of food to the gut. Good luck.

I heard that if you drink hot water with basil leaves it helps, smelling lavander helps too...
I really like to get massages when I'm stressed, it soothes me. Maybe your husband should try that...
When I wake up in the middle of the night, I put a blanket under my pillow so I'm like almost in a seating position and I fall back asleep in a matter of minutes...

I find that 2000 mg of fish oil calms me down within half an hour. I use Barlean's capsules, which are pricier but worth it (in health food stores), but cheaper brands will work too. They just might cause him to burp up a fish taste.
