Long story short, there is a piece of my car hanging off from the underside. It is at the very front of the car. Every time I back up, it pulls out from under the car. It used to be bolted on to an area in the wheel well, but after dragging around so much (duct tape has just stopped working), the part that held onto the bolt has been scraped off. It is thick black plastic, and I believe it is meant to protect the front portion of the undercarriage. I want to get it replaced, but I want to do a little price shopping because I have a friend who might be able to replace it for me as opposed to taking it into a shop and having them charge me $500 to bolt a piece of plastic up under my car :P I've looked all over at car anatomy pictures and I can't find the name of this piece. Any and all help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

More than likely its the lower valance, it tends to get scraped off if you pull all the way up to the concrete tire stops in parking places.
Its there to help a low-pressure area develope behind the radiator/condensor to ensure maximum airflow across those components

Sounds like an air dam! It helps the cars aerodynamics by reducing air turbulence as the air flows under the vehicle. Best to you! ;-)=

splash guard, plate etc, it's got many names, have you seen those plastic straps used to keep a whole bunch of wires together? you can use those to secure your plate?
You can also use a bolt and a nut, or if the holes got too big you can use bolt, washer and nut. Many ways to fix it

It is a undercarriage guard, you can probably go to a junk yard and find one. That way your not paying the price for a new one.
