Hi, I was hoping to get some advice into what anime to buy...

My preferences tend towards the poignant and short stories that are nonetheless romantic in nature...

A good example would be the two Type-Moon series, LUNAR LEGEND TSUKIHIME (Shingastuten Tsukihime), and FATE-STAY NIGHT (although for me, Fate/Stay Night was longer than usual)

My other favorites are DUAL: Parallel Trouble Adventure! and Ah MY Goddess, ONEGAI TEACHER and MIDORI Days (I liked ayase better), and Elfen lied. Hellsing, too- though I enjoyed it mostly because of Alucard/Integra.

I can't remember anything else I've watched at the top of my head, now- though I have AIR and ROZENGIRL right now and will watch ASAP (are they any good)?

Any recommendations? I'm ok with action and mature themes, do I dislike it if the former is overblown. Does anyone else have the same taste as mine?

PS: Poignant short ones, I like the most- though they cause a cathartic depression after watching all 13 episodes or something.

Action and humor are okay, although I don't like it if either or both is the main point of the plot.

For example, I enjoyed Death Note, but didn't really love it- too long, no romance.

Another example of one anime I loved (though It was extremely slow paced) was NOW AND THEN, HERE AND THERE.

sorry- i mean Rozen Maiden.

I'm watching Onegai Twins right now...

Any other animes I should buy?

Alright, everything I reccomend will have 13 episodes or fewer, unless I specifically state otherwise.

-The Melancholoy of Haruhi Suzumiya (romance is a little faint in this one, but it is there, and this show is amazing)

-Saikano (has quite a bit of action, but much more ephasis on the romance)
http://myanimelist.net/anime.php?id=529
-Final Approach
http://myanimelist.net/anime.php?id=119
-DearS (I didn't like this too much, but it may be right up your alley)

And for relatively new series that just came out in Japan, try
-Sola

-Myself;Yourself

As far as Rozen Maiden and Air are concerned, I wan't a big fan of either of them too much. Rozen maiden seemed more like a comedy to me than a romance, and while it was hilarious at times, I didn't like the plot all that much. Air on the otherhand was amazing for the first part of the series, but I didn't like the ending (although many did). If you do like Air, or if you like Air, but like me didn't like the ending, definitely give Kanon 2006 and Clannad (currently airing) a try. They are very similar, and Kanon and Clannad are two of my all time favorites, but they are 24 episodes each. That's why I say don't watch it unless you like the tone of Air, so you will first get a taste of what is to come. In my mind however, Clannad and Kanon are far superior to Air.

Please try:

Kanon2006 - nice drama
Nana - heavy drama on some episodes
REC - light romance, sweet story
Ai Yori Ayoshi - light romance
Welcome to the NHK - light drama
DearS - bit ecchi but i like it
The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya - try watching the first two episodes, not just the first one ... you'll know if you will like it or not. (I love it)
Ginban Kaleidoscope - abnormal romance for younger audience
Da Capo, and Da Capo second season - bittersweet romance but too many episodes in my opinion
Da Capo 2 - currently airing .... 3 episodes as of now looks better than the first two Da Capos

ENJOY!

Yumeiro Patissiere (no human being million ANIME EVER!!) a lot of cake...all of us's warm...the superb!! except you believe you studied it already...really standard.. YOU study a lot about nutrition =___= Kitchen Princess (good manga) This has a highly cool love triangle! Its about a lady who loved cooking and went to a good college & met 2 warm adult adult males..in spite of the indisputable fact that, the adult adult males are so standard, that all of us has crushes on them! So there turned right into slightly of contention and stuff.. Has a sad yet chuffed ending! really like yumeiro patissiere Shugo Chara! it is highly a lot shoujo..a lot of romance! the female is really cute, drawings are tremendous & set in a present day center college Kaichou Wa Maid Sama! This has a extreme college subject matter about a commonplace extreme college,,,were given hooked immediately! guy is so dreamy & warm & gifted! really a good storyline too! nicely desire this enables, except you believe you studied it before...!
