Requirement might be a strong word. It sure doesn't hurt, though. Look at local news today, and there are a great many good-looking people on there, particularly among women. It's almost like TV news has replaced Hollywood as a destination for the young and pretty.
There's always going to be a place for a good reporter, and the bad ones will wash out quickly. But it is easy to wonder where hiring priorities are.

it depends.. of course television wants people who can really bring an impact at once with their looks but what i can observe is that media really focuses on the overall attributes of the person. Of course you should be decent looking but what's really important is how one talks or expresses his/her opinions on an issue.
