ok let me explain a few things: 1:Did the Trojan war occur or something similar?Yes 2:Did the Trojan War happen over Helen?most likely not,let me explain; As it goes the trojan war was most likely fought over economical or geographical situations and not over an adulteress, remember Homer was like our modern day movie writers who will take a factual incident(like Titanic) and add their own touch to it like a story within the actual event,to give it flair, remember at the time this story was told by Homer,Wars were almost a common thing for the greeks with infighting betwixt city states,So he had to add flair to his story to tell it. 3:Were the Heroes Real? Most likely some of them were to an extent to add realism to story but not in the way they were potrayed, remember Stories back then were usually passed on by word of mouth so you know how the grapevine is,starts at one end by the time it reaches the other it is a differant story all together. 4:Was the Trojan Horse Real? Now here is a sticky wicket since it could have been but not what Homer potrayed it as(remember he gave but a few phrases to its mention in the Odyssey),most likely the Horse was a type of Siege engine to tear the walls down, remember the Greeks won this conflict so wanted to portray the Trojans in a bad light or as stupid. 5:Did the War last 10 years?in an all out fighting war seriously doubt it,since this would drain the economy and the country side so badly, now in a drawn out small raiding party and skirmishes?most likely, remember Homer does not describe the first 9 years or so of the war, just the end result so what happened in those years before is unknown. 6:Where did the Trojan War take place? Now here is a stumper it is widely accepted that if the event took place it took place in Turkey on the Hill of Hisarlik, but it has been said to have possibly taken place in England (see"Where Troy Once Stood")which has some possible evidence of such.too even points of possibly in Africa/Egypt (check up on the Sea Peoples). Remember when reading the Illiad and the odyssey too take these stories with a grain of salt but based on an actual event that took place.

The Greeks won the Trojan War. The final battle came when the Greeks gave the Trojan Horse as a gift to the Trojan people, however, it was filled with Greek warriors and they started to attack after dark when it was least expected, and the Trojans were defeated.

There were two Trojan Wars in Greek myths. Heracles took the city once when King Laomedon cheated him after he killed a monster terrorizing Troy. He named Laomedon's infant son Podarces the new king. He was renamed Priam, and was an old man in the second Trojan War that was begun when his son Paris eloped with Queen Helen of Sparta. Agamemnon was commander of the Greeks who won again. They were not yet Greeks then (1194-1184 BC). Homer called them Achaeans, Argives, Hellenes or Danaans.

Well if you think about it no one did. The loss of life was horrendous on both sides. In point of fact many Heroes died in the long siege of Troy. Even though the Greek forces won the day in the end it was a hollow victory for the Greeks. I hope that answers your question.
