Do you fear losing the power and the essence of our beloved constitution ? What are you willing to do to fight against big government, intrusion into our private lives, runaway spending and the unmitigated arrogance of corporations running our country through our "elected" puppets ?? EIGHT YEARS???!!!

This has been happening for MUCH longer than that....I was squawking about it when Clinton was doing the same thing with EO 12919, putting technology sales with Dept. of Commerce, instead of the State Dept. He started the contract with KBR back in '96!!!!......This has been going on since Wilson passed the Federal Reserve Act.....Welcome aboard the conspiracy train...But I'll bet you were one of the one's castigating me during the Clinton years...Clinton, with 12919 secured the infrastructure through FEMA, and Bushes NPSD 51 does the same for logistics....It's not about Dem vs. Rep. or Lib vs. Con....It's about power brokers and their serfdom....It just so happens that you're a lib and it's Bush doing it. What were you saying when Clinton was doing the same thing? Chances are you weren't in the political process then and now you are. I'm not saying I agree with Bush, or that I even support him, but to concentrate solely on one administration, when this has been going on for years seems partisan, trite and ignorant. When you get the blinders off and quit looking at this as "The Evil Cons or Rep." and realize that the upper echelon, Right, Left, whatever, isn't out for your best interests...Let me know...

"The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed -- and thus clamorous to be led to safety -- by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary."
-- H.L. Mencken

"Of course the people don't want war. But after all, it's the leaders of the country who determine the policy, and it's always a simple matter to drag the people along whether it's a democracy, a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism, and exposing the country to greater danger."

-- Herman Goering at the Nuremberg trials

100% yes. The current American admistration and both the previous+current Congress have been the worst enemies of American ideals in a very long time.

I never, ever thought I would live in a time when such a basic American right as Habeas Corpus would be revoked..let alone cheered by some people...oh well.

thegubmint> actually you do not. The authorities can pick you up any time without charges or trial and hold you without limit without any criteria as to why. So while you can speak you now CAN be picked up at the whim of the authorities (It is like me owning a car and letting you use it...you use the car but I can take it away whenever I want for any or no reason....but if you own car I cannot do so)..so far they have not done this..but just for them to have that power is a violation of everything America should stand for.

Because I'm nearly 70, I've been watching civil liberties & constitutional rights disappear down the drain longer than most. Fear mongering & political correctness by the media, special interest groups & corporations seems to be the major cause for errosion of rights.
Politicians appear to have become immune to the wants & needs of those that elected them, because they realize that corporate money & a good PR firm can overcome disagreements among their disorganized constituants. A few well organized & funded people can easily control the country & essentually disregard the Constitution they are sworn to protect "...from all enemies, foreign & domestic."
The rape of the American middle class started with Ronald Reagan's attack on Labor Unions & accellerated from that point. NAFTA & CAFTA were the final nail in the coffin that ended the citizen's right to control this country, her laws & rights of her citizens.

I don't think the issue is so much actual civil liberties or Constitutional rights being lost as much as it is just the un-ending accumulation of RULES and statutory laws, that may not reach the level of Constitutional issues, that suppress a more non-specific and broad ability to express ourselves. You imply that something has happenned "in the last 8 years" as if the Bush Administration has done something specific. Of course you can't say what that is. Make no mistake about it, it is the Republican party that will place judges on the countries courts that protect liberties, and it is Democrats who will place judges that impose personal political preference from the bench. And it is a misunderstanding of reality to think that somehow corporations magically put elected officials in office. Our system is far too pluralistic and complex than that simple notion.

I have a close friend who is on the no-fly list. Her crime? She blew the whistle on a big corporate polluter in the Pacific North West back in the 90's. She moved to Cleveland a few years ago to try to get away from the constant threats to her and her kid's lives and harrasment by the FBI. When her moving truck arrived, all of her belongings had been opened and went through. Files, tax information and other important belongings were completely missing.
The cherry on top was finding herself listed on the government no-fly list for absolutly no reason at all. She's tried unsuccesfully to get it removed for three years. All she gets from the DoHS is lies and red tape.

Where is her habeus corpus?

Yes. People looking for an excuse just to sue someone. You can't talk about a black man having a cold without being accused of racism. Wire taps, racial profiling, government abuse. It's been getting worse every year. The law is not the same for every citizen and it's a great shame.

Yes I do. I feel like I am free by permission .Too many rules and regulations.
I feel that at any time I could be doing something against the law and I am not even aware of it .
This makes us all very vulnerable if we are "inconvenient" to someone in a government power position.

Nope, I'm pretty much doing the same things I did 8 years ago. Maybe a little more vigilant and observant. I haven't noticed any intrusion into my private life...can you give an example.
