My friend is married with a son. Her husband does not work at all. He says that he is a philosopher and is "seeking his inner self". Their son is 10, and he did not work a single day since they married. She works two jobs and studies to be a teacher of foreign languages (she was a preschool teacher, then decided to "upgrade"). When she comes back home at evening, she quickly runs to the kitchen, to cook a dinner, and serves it in front on TV for her husband. Then she checks her son housework, and washes and does the laundry and cleans,
and goes to bed late to raise early. Her son goes to some sports club to play football, and he is very good, and she pays the club fees, and for his uniform, and for the trips he goes on with the team and so on. It was all a strain on her budget, so she took a third job - on weekends she sits at the stall and sells pictures of some local painter (in the tourist area), and
says that she earns a lot from this one,

though she sits there on an open air all the day, be it called or hot.
I just look at it and wonder: why do women need marriage at all, what for? To be Slaves for men, and to provide for them, and please them in bed, and cook and clean?

This is not a marriage, this is indentured servitude. A REAL marriage is about equal commitment to the good of a family and each other. It is caring for another more than anyone else in the world and loving everything about them. It is compromise and so much more.

On one hand I feel for this poor woman for being in such a one sided marriage and stuck supporting a complete loser bum like this. On the other hand, she can always leave him or give him an ultimatum to get off his lazy a@s or be kicked out. When you enable someone to constantly take and never give then you are just as guilty. After a while the other person expects it and it is the norm to just take. She has given this bum the power to take and never give. I hope you are able to give her some good advice and help open her eyes. God bless.

This isn't an example of a good marriage. In most of the marriages I know it is a give and take and all fiances are pooled together for all to use. I only know a couple that have their finances separate and to be honest, they aren't the closest people either. It seems like there is a lot of resentment and mistrust between them. The woman you describe doesn't need a husband. She just doesn't know it yet.

Wow! 10 Years of getting away with being a loser and counting. How the heck did this guy get away with something like that? It sounds like a cultural behavior. What is their nationality?

Does this friend of yours have a sister that thinks the same?

I'm a guy and there's nothing appealing at all about this scenario. I'd have to ask the same question of what is marriage for? Apparantly for this guy it's an entitlement.

He continues to do nothing, because she allows it. If it works for her and she's not complaining, it really is none of your business. If it bothers her, she needs to talk to her husband, light a fire under his butt, and stop accepting his lazy behavior.
