My son is currently in his second year of teaching and is preparing to pursue his degree in school administration. He has all level certification. However he has two young girls and I know assistant principals are overworked. Does anyone know if there is a notible difference in the after hours spent by an elementary principal, middle school or secondary? I know there are a lot of games with secondary. Anyways any suggestions would be helpful.

I am a retired high school assistant principal and principal. The hours are quite long, I would usually arrive at school by 6AM and not leave until all classes were finished and frequently had many hours of "homework" at home. That does not count meetings held in the evening and during the weekend. Per hour i made less money than many of my teachers.

I cannot comment on the hours in different grade levels.

i'm a retired elem instructor and my opinion could be that elem could be a extra useful in super condition. The secondary principals are often circumstances tied up in all the extra advantageous curricular events and characteristic atypical hours. yet no person in education has lots beyond conventional time, i became a single parent divorced, elem college instructor and the stresss point at any public college is horrendous. i could easily advise something else, I lost me wellness and each little thing to dedicating my existence to coaching and the standard public who go into that field are committed and love little ones so it poses a genuine concern with attempting to be a solid parent and a solid public instructor/vital. additionally directors don't get the summer season off in case you reside the place they nevertheless have the SEpt - June concern, so there is going kin time . i think of the pay improve isn't nicely worth to going as much as vital, those are all merely comments from journey, issues to contemplate.

I was a school administrator for two years and, to tell you the truth, yes, your son will have to work long hours. Like any teacher, work never ends just because the regular workday has. However, every school will have different expectations, so perhaps if your son is really interested in pursuing this field then he should interview in schools near his area first and find out if he can fulfill their requirements. Good luck to your son. :-)

Yes which is why I chose to change careers. The pay is better but sometimes its not worth the hassle and time. My children were young at the time and I felt that it took too much time from our family.
