That's an interesting point.

There are women who have answered this and said that you are being racist... What interests me is if a woman calls and asks for a female driver, is she being sexist?

I'm not saying that there's anything wrong with the request, but where do you draw the line? Where does "personal preference" become "racism/sexism/ageism" etc etc.

Ah, the world we live in!

Your question is confused. White is a colour not a race.

It is not against the law, but the company would not have to comply. It might be reasonable to ask for a particular type of driver in certain circumstances. If you are travelling into some kind of ghetto then it might be putting the driver at risk for example.

If you repeatedly ask when a company has refused then that is harrassment and an arrestable offence.

If you were employing your own chauffeur the law is different. You would have to consider all applicants equally. Advertising for a white chauffeur would be an offence.

No your remark, no matter what examples you use, is protected by the First Amendment to the Constitution of the United States. Otherwise known as freedom of speech. Call every taxi company and limousine company in the phone book in your city and county and state, and everyone will say they will be right over. But don't hold your breathe. Not one will show up at your door. Even if by chance there is a white owner of a taxi company who has only white drivers.

I have worked for an all Asian cab company before and believe me, you would not be considered racist for wanted a particular driver. We always got calls from people asking for Asian drivers as we were in a heavily populated area of Asians. So what... It would only be considered racist if you were abusive about it.

You can ask for whatever you want but the chances of you getting it are few. They cant give drivers runs based on racial preferences but you do have the option of turning down the driver for any reason that you choose. No one is going to prosecute you for your views but you will probably have a heck of a time getting a taxie after the word gets around.

As a customer, you can ask for anything you want (assuming it's legal). The company may or may not accommodate you. What you are asking is not illegal. Now, if the company asks you what your race is and then sends a driver of the same race to you; then there might be a problem.

No, u can't be taken to court for being racist if u ask for a specific race from the outset. Of course, they don't have to take ur business and may tell u to get lost. Only if u were to ride in the cab and then refuse to pay because the driver wasn't white (if u hadn't stipulated that he/she must be) then u could be taken to court. If u let on that u would pay the driver, but then the driver shows up and u refuse to get in the cab because u wanted a white driver, they could try to say that u cost him money in getting there and promised him a job and then decided to cancel but I still don't think they could take u o court over it.

Is it racist, yes (in both cases). Is it against the law? No. You are not an employer. . .you are just someone calling for a cab; the cab driver is not your employee.

you still haven't said why anyone would want a driver of a certain ethnic origin - its probably not against the law but you would still get in trouble from someone
