It's the same teams every year. Also, baseball is boring, I don't watch it at all once football and hockey seasons start.

I would agree with the take that the post-season has pretty much been relegated to cable television networks like TBS. I would say there was much more interest when all the post season games were on national television on the networks (CBS, NBC, ABC) and people could watch the games for free. Today, a number of FOX affiliate stations are UHF stations and that does cut into the audience a bit.
The next time the FOX contract comes up for renewal, MLB should give serious consideration to giving the rights, at least for the World Series, back to one of the three major over the air networks - CBS, NBC or ABC.
After all not everyone has cable or a satellite dish. Call me a purist, but I think America's Pasttime should be made available to everyone over free over the air TV.

It has a lot to do with the channels that the playoffs are on. This year the playoffs were on TBS which most people don't have access to watch the games. When the playoffs are on regular television or non-cable channels more people have acess and will pay more attention. Another reason is the fact that more people also have more channels to chose from in turn they watch more what they are interested in. These are a couple of reasons why the ratings were probably low. I would guess that Boston and Colorado had good ratings for the series.

It's because people really don't understand baseball. They don't understand the talent and skill it takes to hit a 95MPH fastball. They also don't understand football either, they just watch it because it's a party sport and very large individuals bash into each other.
Plus, the people not liking baseball because of steriods is crap. How do you think football players are so big? The NFL has a good testing system, but they don't ever use it.

Definitely the teams on the field. There are only a handful of teams that spark an interest from the casual fan and the Rockies are not one of them. The baseball fan will watch regardless of who is playing but the casual fan is who drives the ratings up. I believe the ratings would have gone through the ceiling if it would have been the Red Sox and the Cubs in the series.

I can't give you a real clear answer, but something happened like the baseball players refused to play and went on strike during the season years ago and after that people were ticked that their favorite teams and players would do this to them so they turned away some. I can't remember when it happened, but some baseball fan will come along and tell you I hope, I am just old enough to remember it.

The funny thing is that baseball broke attendance records this year.
I think football is a more popular TV sport, even college football. I think that has to do with it. Steroids might have something to do with it but I doubt it, it isn't like football is innocent of cheating.
Plus, there are more alternatives on TV today more than ever with satellite and Tivo, etc.
Mostly though, football is #1 in this country.

People don't watch anymore because we no longer have the attention span we once did.
In the days of instant gratification, a baseball game is too boring to most people, which is really unfortunate.

Its because the NFL is the most watched sport. Its alot more fun to watch one game agaist two teams and thats it. Also they get to tackle each other.
Its just that Baseball has alot of games per team and all this other crap and I would rather not waste my time!

The ratings are low because the games last too long and are very boring.
You can't equate the steroid problems in baseball and football because football actually tests for it and will toss you out if you test positive - unlike baseball, which pretends that there is nothing wrong.

Marketing, and peoples fickle attitude about baseball... I think its a matter of their only being 3 teams in the league that people care about or talk about that being yanks sox and cubs... if they arent in it people dont talk about baseball. I think its sad
