Even though possession of power does bring responsibility along, we are unfortunately quite prone to irresponsible acts due not only to impulsive urges as you have rightly pointed out, but also to ignorance or accidents or even arrogance....... power is too prone to corruption... its corrupting influence in your example can very likely result in either suicide or murder or unintended killing....... wonder though why a majority of policemen do not end up having caused any death ever through their gun..... for most of them it remains just a toy to scare people with.
So, yes, it is indeed possible that even if I had the gun all the while in my life, I would never have used it..... on the other hand, it can not be ruled out that I might as well have used it to kill myself or someone else.
Isn't 'uncertainty' the universal rule, especially when it comes to human behavior?

Yes, I would be alive. No, I probably wouldn't have killed anyone else. I don't think I act on impulse... I usually think things through, consider the consequences and stuff.
If I had access to a loaded gun, I would've gone to the range.

A loaded gun and having access to it inevitably dictates on how a person reacts when threatened, whether trivially or mortally. Most of the time, the gun acts as his defense shield for better or worse, and responsibly or otherwise. He would be lucky if he doesn't use it on himself at the nadir of desperation, when human frailties fail. I think, therefore, that humans are better off without them, in the final analysis.

I don't think I would have ever killed any one else, but I have been depressed enough to try suicide before (though not with a gun). I usually don't act on impulse.
Now that I have been accurately diagnosed with bipolar disorder and have stable treatment, I'm glad the suicide attempt didn't work - I'll get to see my boys grow up now.

If I dropped a gun as many times as I've dropped my mobile phone, I'd be dead 10 times over. I don't think I would have killed anyone else, and I seldm act on impulse.

I've never even touched a gun, and the only time I see them is on police officers. In Australia, the restrictions on guns are very, very strict. I think if I had access to one, I'd hand it in to the police for destruction, preferably not touching even it myself, much less using it.
Guns freak me out.

I do have a loaded gun with me every day, have since as long as I can remember. So far I've been lucky and never had to even draw it, but then again, I'm pretty aware of my surroundings and do a good job of avoiding confrontation before it starts.
I use my weapons(hand to hand and mechanical) for defense only.

I don't think that I would have used the gun when I was depressed, it's one thing to think about it and another to act upon it.
What ever you have heard it wasn't true, I wasn't even aiming to kill ...
I'm the calculating kind when it comes to big decisions.

I've carried a concealed .45 caliber pistol on my hip for 13 years now. I'm still here.
I have a patient, cool demeanor and don't go looking for trouble so it works for me. People know I carry it, maybe that's why I've never in all those years had an altercation... who knows?

I would probably be on death row for killing some people! LOL! They know who they are and what they did.
I usually think things through, this is why I say I'd be on death row!
