I'll just say congrats on leaving someone who would have likely caused you way more problems than just a broken heart.

You can regret leaving because deep down you love the person. You said he was the love of your life so what you are feeling is completely normal. However, if he is in treatment right now, I would understand your guilt. But, If he's not getting help for his addictions, he is the exact same person he was before, and if he came back, you would end up leaving again for the exact same reasons.

What I regretted was that the marriage was over. I knew it was the best thing to do for me & my family, but still wished and tried to help him. I don't believe anyone gets married hoping to have it end.
It's true, you can't help those who won't help themselves. And that's what recovery comes down to-wanting to get help.
It's natural to feel grief from a divorce. After all, it is a loss. There's a lot of free places to get some help for you and your family. Others who have been there/done that. It's really nice just to realize you're not the only one.
Good luck. You can get through this.

First you cry alot. Then you beat yourself up . Then you realize that you did everything you could. They have the addiction, not you. Surround yourself with positive people. Volunteer for a cause you really believe in. Don't dwell. Take all your good memories and store them away. You will look back someday and be glad you did the right thing.

You can't regret it because it will kill you too. Get the book Codependent No More by Melodie Beatty and read it and over again, it's important stuff An addiction untreated is no good and will lead to nothing good.

NOOOOOOOOOOO IT IS UNFAIR TO LIVE WITH AN ADDICT UNFAIR TO YOU.. PEOPLE WITH ADDICTIONS THEY CAN'T LOVE OR FEEL FOR ANYONE BUT THAT CURE AND YOU ARE LEFT WITH THE PROBLEMS AND CONSEQUENCES OF THEIR ADDICTIONS...IF YOU LIVE WITH ONE GET RID OF HIM, IS THE BEST FOR YOUR LIFE.. HE ISN'T THINKING ABOUT YOUR LIFE RIGHT NOW THE ONLY THING THEY THINK IS HOW OR WHERE THE NEXT FIX IS COMING FROM.. YOU CAN'T LIVE A NORMAL LIFE WITH A PERSON LIKE THAT, I GREW UP WITH A DRUG ADDICTED FATHER AND OFTEN BLAME MY MOTHER FOR STAYING WITH HIM, HE MADE OUR LIVES HELL.. I HAVE NEVER ACCEPTED BEING IN A RELATIONSHIP WITH A MAN THAT DO DRUGS, I STUDY THE MEN IN MY LIFE BEFORE I GOT MARRIED IF I SAW THAT HE LIKES TO DRINK OR DO DRUGS I WOULD END THE RELATIONSHIP IMMEDIATELY.. I REFUSE TO LIVE WITH A MAN LIKE THAT. AND YOU SHOULD REFUSE TOO. GOOD LUCK.
