how can we solidify mercury without freezing?

we can solidify mercury byadding sulphur. but btaned mercury is impure. now how can we retain the solid mercury by removing impurities and making it pure. is there any other process.

Similar to the production of synthetic diamonds, may be by applying very high pressure, mercury liquid can be solidified without freezing.
