Prison inmates don't have any rights. That's why they are in prison. And that goes for the heterosexual as well as the homosexuals.

If it is strictly a shared cell situation doesn't matter if they are gay or straight. If it is for the purpose of living together like a domestic relationship then no. Not because they are gay, but because they are in prison as a punishment and why should they be allowed the reward of having a partner to live with.

Given that most prison rapes are committed by heterosexual males, I don't think heterosexual prison inmates should have the right to share cells.

Prison inmates should have no rights at all. None. Prison should be miserable.

What would be the alternative? Putting gay prison inmates in cells with violent heterosexual inmates who would try to rape them?

Actually they do... But it is more like a section in the prison for inmates that might in danger for why they are in or who they are, like being gay..
Its called protective custody..

your question doesn't really state whether , the gay prisoners should share TOGETHER or with non gays.............
prisoners usually bunk together for space reasons. many men, sadly enough as women tend to TURN once in prison......and only in prison. so in all honesty it doesn't matter if they put gay & straight because they can get into a relationship.
as far as inmates who are outright transexuals..........they would keep them together in protective custody.

they have a "right" to just like straight inmates have the right to share their cells. i don't think sexuality should have anything to do with it.

almost all long term prison inmates practice homosexual relations, willingly or not, wouldn't it be better if they were doing it without coercion.
