Like Technaja said there are 3, DTAC, AIS and True/Orange. I have used DTAC and True/Orange in the past. True/Orange seemed to have good coverage in Bangkok. I heard it's not true elsewhere. I have not used them in over a year. The last time I used it or rather tried to use it, there was 24 hour lapse before I could use the system. I could not be without a phone then so, I got a DTAC sim card.

DTAC is okay, there were problems of even contacting other users of DTAC. I found that true but, coverage is okay in Bangkok and most of my friends in Bangkok use DTAC.

AIS, I heard is good, it's owned by the former prime minister. I would not use something that supports his family.

You can get a SIM card at any 7-11 store or the Authorized DTAC/AIS/Orange dealer. Authorized dealers, I think can even be found in Suvarnabhumi Airport or any of the malls. You will need a 100 or 200 baht starter card and refill at any time. You can refill for 100 to 500 baht. I think the usage rate is 3-6 baht per minute. At 34 baht per USD. It's not too expensive.

Good luck

3 networks as stated, and AIS has the widest coverage in Thailand. It has its own satellite providing the cover. DTAC and Orange are riding on AIS for the service.

3 networks : Orange/DTAC/AIS...

AIS and DTAC are rather ok if you would like to use it here while you travel to Thailand
