"by taking decent soda and adding caffeine" - it has been done (Jolt, and others). They don't work out for some reason.

RockStar, Red Bull, Monster Energy are NOT sodas. They are in a different product category.

What do you mean they don't work out? Energy Soda drinks have been a phenomenal success! (RockStar, Red Bull, Monster Energy)

That said, I think these things are really kind of expensive, and I don't like paying anymore than $1.99 per 16oz serving for mine. That's why I limit my consumption to one per month. You can pay much less that that for them if you buy them in bulk (Costco)

I've tried them all, and RockStar wins my heart. They seem to mix the right level of ingredients for flavor and effect. Some of them that I have tasted are far too sweet (e.g. Lost Energy) or they contain sucralose, which I am allergic too

1.50

I don't get why they are sooo expensive and usually bad. I was just thinking yesterday that someone could make a lot of money by taking decent soda and adding caffeine. Soda cost what 50 cents at most for a wholesale 16 oz. If someone took soda and caffeine and marketed it well they could substitute red bull or whatever for a dollar a can.

No more than $2.50 Some drinks like G Pure are going way overboard and I think $3 is pushing things for the average beverage.

First you have to make sure it really IS an energy drink, not just a lot of sugar (corn syrup, fructose, glucose...all just either simple or complex sugars). I think all of them are over priced, but I have paid up to 1.50. Sorry I can't remember the name.
