My adult daughter is grown and moved away, she has two new babies, but our relationship is so strained we cant even speak! (theres alot of history there) Id like to know what to say to people (or not say) especially when im just meeting them. Im trying to get my own life and date for the first time in years, but i just dont know how to explain the situation. I dont want to lie but i dont want to get into it at all. Any suggestions?

Yes dear you just have to keep on trying----I have been in the same boat for many years i have 3 daughters and 5 g-kids my oldest never wanted to talk to me after the divorce and now after some 13-14 years we r best friends. Well not best but we now know each other and love each other and we see each other and we love each other. So don't ever give up keep on keeping on some day you will be happy. My oldest is now 37 the other 2 are younger.

Don't tell them until you are comfortable, not everyone needs to know about your relationship with your daughter. if they ask say she lives out of town or whatever, just don't get into details.

Just say that she has been so busy lately that you have not gotten the opportunity to have a good conversation with her. Don't go into details. It is none of their business.
