I know quite a bit about Shingles because my husband had it, my sister had it & now my Mom has it for the 3rd time in her later, adult life.
What I can't seem to get a definate answer on is the prognosis...is it rare to get Shingles more then once? Some Docs say yes & some say the Shingles can reoccur many times.
What do you think?

Firstly let me say that I hope ur mother recovers soon.I had shingles when i was 17 which is odd because shingles usually occur in elderly people. Shingles can occur more than once because its a virus that lives in your nerves after chicken pox, it was the most painful experience of my life the pain was blinding and i was wishing for death just because it was sweet relief, i was on Vicodin and yet the pain was still unbearable, Shingles do occur more than once and each time it gets more and more worse, my doctor told me that it can cause paralysis since it damages ur nerves this condition is usually brought on by emotional stress, cancer, or immunal deficiancy ( i.e AIDS) so be sure you have everything checked out! I'll pray for ur mother because i know what a painful experience shes going through! i hope she feels better!

Shingles can recur frequently when the body is under stress, or suffering physical stress due to illnesses. I know it can be dealt with quickly and effectively if you catch the outbreak fast. If you see the doctor within 48 hours I believe they can give you medicine that can clear it up promptly and therefore reducing debility time and pain. It is vital to act very quickly though. It is a disease related to chicken pox. People who have had chicken pox can become ill with shingles in the circumstances I mentioned earlier. A person can do a lot for themselves with diet and positive mind set to try to avoid an outbreak. Eating lots of green leafy vegetables, the darker green the better aids in building up your good health. Also when you eat potatoes, try the new potatoes with skin on ... the bulk of the nourishment is at skin level and it is considered another helpful food to keep your body healthy and to try to avoid shingles. Also try to go for pleasant walks each day to relax, exercise and to de-stress. Good luck in the management of the disease.

Cheers

you may in basic terms get shingles in case you have already had the rooster pox. The virus lays dormant (asleep) on your nerve roots. Later in life, it may flare decrease back up even with the undeniable fact that it would not supply you the classic rooster pox rash. instead, it exhibits up as a blistery rash in a line or strip in a community on in basic terms one fringe of your physique (a dermatome). it quite is a small or a greater section, some blisters or diverse, can bypass away in some days or take a month or longer to heal. it quite is painless or reason lots of discomfort. somebody with shingles can supply the virus that motives chickenpox to somebody who's under no circumstances had or been vaccinated against chickenpox (contagious till each and each of the blisters are scabbed over). yet you may't get shingles from somebody who has shingles or chickenpox.

My mom had it once, however, I know someone who has had it recur. It is painful, and is something that can occur in people who have had the chicken pox. It usually happens years later, in adult life, (the shingles).
Take care.

Many family members have had it. Some have recurrences. Since it's always in your system, you can get it again. My sister did, but because she now understood what was happening, she got help sooner. It made the recurrence less severe. She needed cortizone shots from a pain management center.
