I am an accounting major, but I hate it. My parents forced me to major in accounting. I am not going to change major now, because I will be graduating soon.

However, I just don't see myself getting up every morning, doing accounting for 10 hours each day. I like animals, I want to work at a Pet shop, or groom dogs or something. Or maybe do something that has to do with sports, or maybe work at a casino. That would make me happier. However, then I won't be able to make enough money to move out and will be a loser and live with my parents forever....

Please give me some advise.

Your major doesn't dictate what you can do with your life. It's just a piece of paper that says that you studied this and did well in that subject so you know a little something about it. You can always work with animals, maybe doing accounting for a pet shop, groomers, etc...

Stick it out, get the degree, then do what you would like!

But stay away from working at the casino's if you are a non-smoker. You would be constantly breathing in smoke if you worked there.

Well, start by looking for jobs that will make you happier but make some use of your skills and plan career moves that will take you closer to what you want and out of your parent's home. I suppose you are outside the USA if you expect to work 10 hours a day, so your opportunities may be different, but professional sports teams need accountants as do casinos. If you like working around animals, you might look at record keeping activities for breeders, etc. One path might be to work toward being a breeder of certain animals where your accounting skills would make it less likely your business would go down the tubes.

Studying accounting is much, much more boring than being an accountant. Of course, it varies a lot depending on your company and the actual job that you do, but there are plenty of accounting jobs that don't involve sitting and adding up figures for 10 hours a day. Especially if you work for a private accounting firm (as opposed to working in the accounting department of a large company), you will see a lot of different clients from different industries, and you'll learn a little about what each of them do, including visiting their offices/factories etc.

I'd say learn more about the different careers in accounting and aim for the one that suits you best. Even if you choose to change your career later on, at least you will have had some experience in your field, and that can only help you later. For example if you're an accountant for a year and then decide you want to work for Apple marketing iPods, that accounting knowledge will be a bonus to you if you are being considered for a management position later, as you will have some relevant practical experience outside of your job.
