If you don't want any red, you'd better have it done by a professional. Otherwise, you almost certainly will end up with some red in your hair. A professional has been trained to strip your hair of it's original color and then add the new color; after that you only have to maintain the roots.

It depends on the hair dye. Make sure you read the box. It will say if it will leave your hair orange-ish or reddish tint. Your best bet when going for such a drastic change is to go to a salon and have them do it. They're able to use the right dye-products/chemicals to avoid red/orange look when going blonde. If not, then try starting out using a darker blonde color and gradually lightening it up. But even if you dont get your color done at a salon you can still talk to a stylist about doing it yourself.

What I do is bleach it til the red is gone, then I dye it what colour I want. Yes, your hair will go orange. But bleach it again it'll go blonde. Bleach it once then dye it a sandy brown colour that has no red undertones.

Most dyes have an indicator on the box or in the shop that 'predicts' what color it will become. You can trust it unless your current color is also a dye job.
You can even go platinum.

if you can't afford to go to a professional, i'd reccomend dying your hair in stages i.e: medium brown - light brown - dark blonde - lighter blonde. But do this over a period of say, a month, as in one day your hair will be severely damaged!
good luck.

PROBABLY 99.9% u will be red! orange. OUCH! The process to blonde from reddish-brown is a long and difficult one, and VERY 'iffy'...and damaging to ur hair.

You would probably need to go to a salon so that if it does they can put a toner in it to correct it
