Christians I've talked to about evolution act like it is so shameful to believe that we evolved from "a monkey" when according to their beliefs we are all inbred instead. Doesn't being inbred seem a little more appalling than evolving from a lower species?

I know it's apes guy. Hence the reason for the quotation marks. Quotation marks are used to show that a phrase or idea is taken from another. I hope I could help you understand what you should have learned in 2nd grade english class

death from above- where did that come from? how am i attacking a denomination as a whole when i am just pointing out something about one person's answer. if i wanted to attack a group, it wouldn't christians, it would be agnostics: "natures d students". cant make up your mind, so you just furrow your brow and shrug your shoulders.

don't get too caught up with the wordage folks. I'm not trying to trample anyones beliefs or have a discussion of origin. Basically the question is, does the idea of evolving from a lower species seem so bad when compared to the idea of being a society of inbred yokels?
I understand that on some degree that we are all related, but not in the sense that religion presents.

Because they are wrong:
We didn't evolve from the monkeys of today. Monkeys and humans evolved from a common ancestor. Not that most hard-core Christians will accept that as a better answer, of course.
On the other hand, it is hard to watch today's chimpanzees and orangutans and not be amazed at how very human they seem. We're just not that far away from these animals. I'm okay with that, personally, because I know I'm not a chimp or an orang or whatever. But apparently many Christians are angered by the comparison.

Genesis 1:24
And God said, Let the earth bring forth living creatures AFTER THEIR KIND, cattle, and creeping things, and beasts of the earth AFTER THEIR KIND : and it was so.
Every creation evolves from components to a finished product according to the creator, but we can not mix a soup and chair.
If people embrace the evolution theory, how difficult is to embrace that there was more than one set or variety at the beginning of things, and less to say a common force driving the said process of evolution creation.
And furthermore, once a product is finished it does not continue to evolve, but comes into a process of adaptation, and if you want to call it so, we can see resurrection as a form of recycling.
Peace to the World.
"We are humans, the most exalted creature on Earth, let us embrace our responsibilities". We have fallen so low that today we could say:
"One thing bad about saying we come from the monkeys is that we might be offending the monkeys".

Honestly, I take offense that somebody who has studied evolution would say that we evolved from a monkey. When he know that we evolved from a common ancestor. And yes it is necessary to differentiate between the two because it makes a huge difference.
Edit: Death from Above - is a closet theists disguised as an agnostic. Don`t pay him any mind. Every-time somebody ask a question about Christianity there are either stupid, vindictive, or childish. He`s a punk!

I am not defensive when someone says that we come from a monkey, or that we are inbred. I just feel sorry for someone like you that would rather believe we are not created by intelligent design- I would much rather believe that i was created as a human only, in the image of God- however if I wanted to deny that i am a sinner in need of a Savior, to return to the original relationship that my creator wanted with me then I guess I would say i believe we evolved so i do not have responsibility for my sin. Don't be defensive with your thoughts about my answer, now!!

We don't, many of us believe in evolution as much as anybody else, we just see it as part of God's plan. There are those who like to adhere to fundamentalist views. I don't have a problem with that either, they are safe in there beliefs, but the Bible is not God and don't elevate it to that status (thats against the first commandment) If it were Jesus wouldn't have come and set us straight, He is the word. And if your anti-evolution stance keeps someone from learning about Christ and salvation, because you argue on and on with them about it and it turns them off to Faith, then you have committed a sin over something that if it were important Jesus would have spoke of and he never did. So don't, you can argue with me a fellow believer over it but don't turn people off to God over something thats not that important. I mean when you get to heaven and God says "oh by the way I do use evolution, to create life on about 10 billion planets, works pretty good huh? are you going to argue with him because it contradicts an oral tradition of a Neo-paleolithic tribal people, that lived in goat skin tents.

Honestly, if we're all not worth the dirt that we're supposedly created from, as I've heard many a Christian say, then how is coming from non-sentient primates a bad thing?
Evolution does NOT disprove God, unless, of course, you are a fundamentalist, self-imposed psychotic. Then EVERYTHING disproves God. Or, at least THAT God.

When God created man we were made in his image and had no faults and as time goes on there is more and more faults and so inbreeding is not an option anymore. Coming from monkeys is strange because looking at people who have a soul and monkeys do not does not seen logical. When was the last time you have seen a monkey turning into a human of someone found a half person and half monkey fossils to prove your point.

Because scientists can not give even one single example of a genetic mutation or an evolutionary process which can be seen to increase the information in the genome.
