Or the so-called “leading of the holy Spirit?” Hasn’t this led to crazy interpretations? For example the justification of incest, slavery and the holocaust? The 30 years war between Catholics and Protestants, prejudices, more than 30,000 Christian denominations and the disunity of Christendom? Not to mention cults led by people like Jim Jones and David Koresh who tell their followers to commit suicide? Is this Christ’s way of uniting Christians following his prayer for all of us to be one? I certainly don’t think so.
Jesus prayed that His followers would be ONE.
"that they may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us..." (John 17:21)
St. Paul emphasizes that all followers of Jesus Christ should be ONE.
"Now I plead with you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgement." (1 Co

Private interpretation of biblical doctrine is not the same as personal reading of the Bible for spiritual growth. The Catholic Church continues to protect the doctrinal interpretation of scripture as a matter beyond the decision of individual readers, but at the same time, in the strongest language encourages the personal, private reading and study of the sacred texts. If the inspired word is read in a spirit of faith and prayer, the Holy Spirit will protect from error and lead the reader to God's true message for his or her life.

Let's see what the word of God has to say about it:
2 Peter 1:20 (KJV) Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.
The Bible is not a collection of fables or human ideas about God. It is God’s very words given through people to people. Peter emphasized his authority as an eyewitness as well as the God-inspired authority of Scripture to prepare the way for his harsh words against the false teachers. If these wicked men were contradicting the apostles and the Bible, their message could not be from God. Men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit” means that Scripture did not come from the creative work of the prophets’ own invention or interpretation. God inspired the writers, so their message is authentic and reliable. God used the talents, education, and cultural background of each writer (they were not mindless robots); and God cooperated with the writers in such a way to ensure that the message he intended was faithfully communicated in the very words they wrote. No other Book has ever been fought so hard and they have burned, banned, and attempted to do away but no other religion has ever impacted the world as the Gospel of Christ. This word of God will never pass away, it is for all times and works in every generation, sad thing is many humans never study it and never change, but this Bool is a True life changer. Blessings

in truth the bible, and all scripture that is allegorical has a number of different levels of interpretation and as people grow in there realization their interpretation deepens. Christ says this in a number of ways - you can find those for yourself - even of his own path.
unfortunately if the spiritual culture of the living people does not insist on verification and contemplation through living teachers and our fellow students, people can manipulate their own interpretations accidentally or intentionally and thereby use scripture to validate the very nerve pathways that are tormenting them.
it is not a mental outcome that scripture truly offers -- it is intended by those that offer it in truth to take mental preoccupation and passion and advance the soul beyond that state of self experience.

God intended people to search the scriptures for the truth. But of-course Satan had to get in there and reinterpret Scripture and to invent new religions to deceive many.
Could be 'Punter' is heading for the 'out' tray.

In ancient times, the people decided they could get to heaven their own way, so they built the Tower of Babel.
God was offended, so he confused their languages.
In the 15th century, some people once again decided they could get to heaven their own way, based in part on the heretical doctrine of "Sola Scriptura".
God was offended, so he permitted them to dwell in the confusion, which they created.

No we cannot make the bible mean whatever we want it to mean. That is why there is so many different beliefs and so much wrong teachings going on. Just look at the history of the Catholic church and you will see that they killed so many faithful servants of God and they still trying to mislead many with there false teachings.

God did not intend that people would interpret the Bible according to their own fancies.
God gave us all freewill. Therefore, He would not interfere with our decision in how we interpret. He MAY try to guide you to the TRUTH, but whether you choose to accept it or not is your choice.
