Having been to sydney, perth, melbourne and canberra, i had realised they've all had serious housefly problems in the summer. Everywhere you walk, they'd swarm all over you. But in winter, they'd all have disappeared.

So what i want to ask is, do colder states in australia not have the housefly problem? For example, adelaide and tazmania in the summer?
How about New Zealand? do they have this problem with flies in the summer?

I have lived in Sydney, Canberra, Melbourne and far north Queensland and flies are everywhere. I think Canberra was the worst and that may be due to the large numbers of sheep in the surrounding districts. They are certainly more prevalent in the summer and in dry conditions where there are lots of grazing animals. Aerogard, fly screens and the traditional Aussie wave is about all you can do :)

The flies that swarm all over you are bushflies not houseflies. Houseflies breed in garbage and dirt, bushflies breed in animal droppings - including those of dogs and cats. In the bush, the dung beetles have done an excellent job reducing the breeding areas for bushflies but not in the cities. Houseflies will breed in unlikely places such as the gunk that collects under your fridge.

Adelaide is hotter and drier than Melbourne and Hobart is hot in the summer. Flies of all varieties are found everywhere in Australia. Use screens to keep flies out of the house and when you are outside, don't forget the Aerogard.

Yes even new Zealand has them. But most australian homes have fly netting on the windows and doors. . I was in Singapore several years ago and apparently they didn't have flies and i don;t think they had birds either and I recall something someone said they go together. But not sure if thats right
