The United States has a gross domestic product of roughly 11 trillion dollars. As a guess, the total worth of all assets in the United States is rough 110 trillion, and that of the entire world roughly 1 quadrillion dollars. In other words, if an alien race came and offered to buy Earth piecewise, would 1 quadrillion dollars be a reasonable total for everything, if nobody knew that they were going to buy the entire planet? Can you find a way to estimate the true total worth of all assets on Earth, as owned privately and publicly?

And please spare me talk about how priceless this planet is. The reality is that everything on this planet is legally owned by one entity or other, and have a price on them, even if only for tax reasons.

Note: 1 quadrillion dollars is the same as 1 petadollars, or 10^15 dollars. See wiki chart.

Jade, you forget that a lot of assets are owned by sovereignties, not just individuals.

I would like an estimate within 1 order of magnitude, such as "10 quadrillion dollars", or "100 quadrillion dollars". At 100 quadrillion dollars (10^17), that would come to about 10 million dollars for every person in the world. Can it be that high?

is it 5 yet?, forget about the aliens, at least you are thinking, and you seem to be coming around to a figure between 100 trillion and 1 quadrillion dollars, even though you haven't proposed a figure.

World population is 6.6 billion with about 3 billion in the workforce. World wide GDP is about 48 trillion dollars. or about 7,300 per person, or 16,000 per worker. Let's say the average worker works from age 20 to age 65, or 45 years.
48 trillion times 45 years is 2,160 trillion dollars. But that's not really asset values.

But I think that still underestimates the asset value. Stocks and bonds alone are at $140 trillion worldwide, but that is only the value of publicly traded companies. You would have to more than double that to cover private business world wide, and probably double it again to cover public property, so that gives me something like 560 trillion dollars.

The financial times article below states that half the world's assets are held by the top 1%. There are 37 million people in that 1% (although 1% of 6.6 billion is 66 million people, it says adults). And that you need to have over half a million net worth to make it in the top 1%. You have to assume the average net worth of those 37 million people is somewhat more than half a million, probably somewhere close to tripple that, so lets say $1.5 million times 37 million times 2 is 111 trillion dollars net worth, but that's just private value (and clearly low, since we already have the value of stocks and bonds at more than that).

But all this is moot. Because the alien cannot come buy everything. He spends some money (never mind how did he get the money) to buy an asset, and then the seller has money to buy other things with. So for every item the alien buys, there is someone else with money looking to buy an asset as well.

I doubt Jade's answer is even close to a correct answer. Since most people in the world are poor.
So I gave her a thumbs down.
Some countries have these tax forms( for individuals or bussiness) that can be subject to statistics. Other countries don't have, I guess you have to look somewhere like gdp or how much every individual earns on a year. This statistics is everywhere(internet or books). Then multiply with his age when he was able to work and then multiply with the population. That way is a better approximation.
Since there is a finite number of countries, that is possible.
Sorry my answer is not great but it's just an opinion.

1.3 quadrillion dollars. If a planet of people with equal financial system were to come and capture the earth and mine it for 100% of its resources.... I.e. Everything That's about 1.3million trillions. That's a lot but I think it's worth way more than that for its ability to support life, and be our home. This answer is correct.

The church does NOT need to sell their real property to finance its charities. The Catholic charities are sustained by 1.2 billion catholics and by some wealthy catholics. Donation is not a problem. However money come and go to fund the charities. Actually the Vatican is operating in red; we also knew that Pope Benedict is singing and selling his dvd to finance his globaL music ministries. So once again, the poor of the world is relying on the catholic charities and on 1.2 billion catholics. What an awesome church.

I do not know how much it worth with the things you listed. But, I do know that Jesus came and paid the ultimate price that was owe. He paid a debt He did not owe. We had a debt we could not pay. Thank God, Jesus came a paid all the debt in full. 16For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 18He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

Remember Law of Conservation (of mass, energy, wealth and soul). According to this great law matter/energy/wealth/soul/God can not be created nor can they be destroyed but can be changed from one form to another. When matter/energy/wealth change from one form to another, value of transferee form equals value of transferor form. This universe is made up of two distinctly opposite characters say: assets and liabilities, male and female, protons and electrons, positive and negative charges, north and south poles of a magnet, wants and means, debits and credits, the exploiter and the exploited etc. According to Law of Conservation the value of both the opposite characters are equal.
Total worth of all assets of the world = Total worth of all liabilities of the world. This is Law of Conservation. This Law is the mother of every branch of knowledge you name.
