She is due to go into hospital on wednesday for an operation on her eye what should i be doing to help her as she is lethargic and pale she has had this for 24 hrs now, i have given her this dehydration medicine to keep her nutrients up but she has only drunk about 2 sips. I will phone the doctor as soon as it is open. It is very scary as her poo is like water and very pale and very smelly.

I wouldn't normally jump to conclusions about what this is because many things can cause diarrhea, but you did mention that it's exceptionally smelly. This sounds much like Rotavirus. It's a virus that is very apparent in small children and can last several days to a week or so. It can cause both diarrhea and vomiting, altough vomiting isn't always prominent. It is a serious condition that needs extra attention because it can render a young child or infant dehydrated VERY quickly due to the amount of liquidy feces and/or vomit. If she's unable to keep anything down (appetite loss is another symptom) for more than 12 hours or she doesn't urinate, becomes lethargic, looks pale or fingers start to swell at all, it's time to take her to the Emergency Room to be treated for dehydration. It's vital that you constantly wash your hands after changing her becuase the virus spreads through the feces and is very contagious when spread from person to person, but washing hands frequently after changings really helps minimize exposure to the virus.
If it is rotavirus she won't be having surgery this week (might need to reschedule in another week or two - it is viral infection and that would complicate and increase risks of a surgery) after all, and you should definitely make sure that her doctor knows what's going on as soon as possible in case it results in a trip to the hospital. Don't freak out yet, as long as she doesn't become dehydrated she'll be just fine because it's a fast working (although a miserable one) virus. It's also very common although not very well known by most people.
I'm sorry to hear she isn't doing so well and I hope that things get back to normal again quickly.

When ever this has happened to my daughters I was always advised by a doctor to feed them bananas. Bananas have a binding quality which should return the stools to normal within a day. NO dairy!! Give lots of fluids for re-hydration. It will take a few days for stools to return to usual colour. Let the doctor know that she has had this before her scheduled operation as it may be important information for them to know. Good luck!!

Definitely a doctor,I was always told no dairy.A cool cup of black tea[not strong] with 1/2 teaspoon of sugar or honey and a little lemon. When they feel like eating a couple of dry Sao any cracker to see if stool takes shape then start normal eating again.

I agree, she needs some solid foods. It's very important to keep her hyrdated, but even little bits of solids throughout the day can be very helpful now. Try and give her foods that you would think might make her more constipated. Bananas are good and tasty, and they might help do their bit against the runs. Good luck.

better take her to the doctor right away and tell him/her that your daughter has had severe diarreah for 24 hrs..and is totally dehydrated.....they might reschedule the operation or
do something else..do not let your daughter go into that surgery without telling someone what is going on!!!!!

I would watch her throughout the night and keep pushing any kind of fluid. If she gets any worse I would consider going to the ER. Can you page her doctor so at least you could talk to him? I hope she's okay and good luck to you.
