HI!!! I have had mirena since i was about 6-8 weeks post-pardum my son i now 2!! I think it is AWESOME because you don't have to worry about birth control!! and it is 99.9% effective, which no other contraceptives out there are...... honestly it didn't hurt for me, everyone is defferent! but when it was inserted it just felt like cramping and as soon as it was there it was gone, and for a little while afterwards, i had some mild cramping that went away pretty quickly, other than that, it was not painful, it is not painful, i can't feel it, my partner can't either :) i know some IUDs *my sister has a different kind* and her partner is always compaing that the strings hurt him, i have never had that problem.... but i don't know how much u know about it, but it us really a simple prosedure, they insert it, there is what looks like fishing line attatched to it which the cut after inserting, and you're done!! you can get it taked out at ANY time, doc said it's good for up to 10 years, i want a baby again in the next year, so i plan to get it removed this summer!! that is the beauty of it!! when u want it out, it can be taken out, getting pregnant becomes your decision!!!!! i personally love it and would recommend it to ANY mother who had a baby and does not want another one in the near future! *i was very nervous also, i wasn't sure what to expect, i thought it was going to hurt...but i figured it was the best birth control option i had because i could never remember to take my pill daily on time!! and i hate needles!! the patch sucked because it left sticky goo in a square!!! so i took the Mirena IUD!!! good luck!

I had one for 6mths and it is not painful to have put in or taken out at all. You can never feel it once its in. Its only when they put that awful speculum in to open you up thats uncomfortable.
Everyone I know thats had or has one hasn't had a problem except me that is! I was getting Uterine cramping where it felt like I was in full blown labour for a bout 45 mins or so and then it would go away. Apparently this is rare. 5 times that happened so I got it out. (and now I think I'm preggers with number 3! just my luck!)
However everything else about it was wonderful, hardly a noticeable period, no period cramps, no forgetting pill, cheaper, no mood swings, PMS negliable, etc.....and I would still recommend it to others as what I experienced is very rare and the IUD has little or no symptoms for most people. I am just sensitive to anything other than a low dose pill but it was worth a try anyway.
Give it ago, i don't think you'll regret it. Also it lasts for ages so that is an advantage also!

I had this inserted around 3 months ago and believe me it does not hurt if they do it while you are menstruating all you have to do is remember to take a Motrin before you have it done.It feels like if you are having a pap smear.

I was thinking of using Mirena after I deliver my baby...one of my OB Drs strongly recommends it.
