I need a job. I have been unemployed for about 6 months now and I have gone through my savings. I'm married and my husband has been paying for the bills I have accrued seperate from our joint accounts. He is suportive but I don't like having to depend on him for $$. I have been interviewing for jobs for about 3 months now and I have not gotten call backs. WHat I have been told is I am over qualified--I have a BA in psychology and hours into my Master's but due to credentialing differences I can't finish my degree here in CA, this is not where we are looking at living for more than 2 years, we are military--HOWEVER, I still have bills. I was offered a job making $12 an hour range, no benefits and no room for advancement. But it is income. Should I keep holding out for a job that feels right for me or should I settle and just start bringing in some income? I have been told numerous times, I'm over qualified---but $$ IS $$!!!

I help people find jobs and I can tell you in my market if you go much longer than 6 months between jobs it looks far worse than if you take a job out of your field.
Take the income and you can continue to look for other work. It also helps your confidence to at least have some income coming in while your searching for the right job.

I'm sort of in the same boat so I'll tell you what I did. After sending out tons of resumes and cover letters and going to several interviews I took a job that isn't what I really want to be doing and I'm continuing to look and keeping my options open. I'm also working on starting my own business, but I know that will take a little while to get it off the ground. We only plan to be here for three years so it's hard to take a job knowing you won't really be vested in it.

Whatever you choose make sure it will give you new skills or experience to add to your resume. Good luck!

If the financial need is really there then I would suggest you take the job for the meantime. It may be lower than what you are really worth but its better than no income at all. Besides you can always explore other work opportunities even if you are already employed. What's important now is the present and how you can help your husband in settling all your expenses.

Take the job on the basis that they understand that you will still be looking for a job and that they won't mind your taking time off for interviews.

Cast your net wider and look at jobs in related fields. At interviews, tell the interviewer that you don't mind starting at the bottom and looking within that firm for opportunities.

Many firms seek people to fill positions "in house" first. You have to be in the firm to be at the top of the list.

Ask God for wisdom and He will give it to you.

Take the money for now, keep up the search. Use your computer to it's full potential. You'll get what you really want eventually.
