St. Peter, the first Bishop of Rome (the Pope is actually the Bishop of Rome) was martyred by being crucified upside down. He requested this because he did not consider himself to be worthy of dying in the same way that Christ did.
The Pope doesn't do a whole lot of sitting, let alone on a golden throne, believe me. He's a very busy man. He probably does more in one day than you and I do in a month.
edit: OK, so you're actually wondering about the way we cross ourselves. I don't think you can call it "upside down"- to me it's just a cross, it doesn't have to be geometrically perfect when I do it

The way you draw a cross must be different from the way I and a billion other Catholics draw a cross (or write the letter "t").
Not agreeing with you does not mean we are not giving God the respect he deserves.
+ The Sign of the Cross +
I open my hand and touch my brow, and say,
"In the name of the Father"
Then I touch my heart with my hand, and say,
"and of the Son."
I touch my shoulders left and right, and say,
"and of the Holy Spirit"
I say,
"Amen."
The Sign of the Cross is
+ A statement of belief in the Holy Trinity
+ A statement of belief in and thanksgiving for Jesus' sacrifice on the Cross
+ God blessing us
+ Us Blessing God ("I will bless the Lord at all times")
+ A prayer using your entire body
+ A Bible quote (Matthew 28:19)
With love in Christ.

Inverted crosses are very rarely used, but are mostly known as the Cross of St. Peter (read: somebody who was allegedly crucified upside down, and was also the first Pope). And the Pope sits on a throne, not a past-tense verb.

First question. We don't. Unless you mean when we hold a Rosary and make a sign with the crucifix while holding the beaded chain to prevent it from thrashing us in the forehead. There is no other intent and for you to draw this conclusion is absurd.
Second question, the pope sits on the golden throne to rest his weary bones. Any other silly questions?

Void... There is usually a lag of 3-5 minutes from submitting a question until the question posts... To avoid double posts wait at least 5 minutes before jumping on to post again...

no idea.
You may be refering to the upside-down cross that St Peter was crucified on.
Pope has to sit on something. He actually lives in very Spartan circumstances.
