I like to think that time moves in both directions and that the events that take place for the creation of God, or the universe, or whatever, haven't happened yet.

I think the origin of the universe is something we may never understand. It gets complicated when you say our whole world came from nothing, but even more complicated when you say God did it. If the universe came into existence by natural phenomena, I don't think theres any way of really understanding how it happened. We weren't there, we can't go back and observe what happened, plus it happened billions of years ago, so I don't think we will ever have an adequate explanation. It's much more complicated to study than evolution. At least with evolution the evidence is right here on our planet and we can get a really good look at it. But with the universe...geeze, there's just too much stuff out there that we can't really test and observe. A lot of it is just hypothetical. And if God did create the universe, I don't think theres any way of ever knowing where he came from. It will always be an unanswered question.
By the way, someone on here implied that this question is a drinking question, which basically means it is a stupid question. But I just want you to know that I think this is a great question to ask. Not everyone hangs out in R&S constantly, so they don't realize this question gets asked over and over again. people need to get over it and ignore questions they don't like.

You have a dilemma going on. Your Dad seems to think evolution is wrong. Best advise is - don't argue the point with your Dad. Just research whatever you can and come to your own conclusions. God was NOT always. Mankind has been on this planet for more than 3 million years [I site the case for Lucy] God did not appear till around 1500 to 1000 AD as is understood biblically speaking. That would be a god named - Yahweh.
Prior to that there were many different gods and goddesses. So the fact is - God has only been in the minds of the believers for a rough 4000 years plus or minus. (The god I am suggesting here is the god your father believes in.)
You obviously understand reality - you need to soar free from the belief systems that are going to be thrown at you. Believe nothing, research everything.

Modern humans have been around for about 10000 years. (I'll get to how that works in with the Bible in a bit.) Before that, there were 3 relatively close ice ages. Before the beginning of the first of the three roughly 40000 years ago, life was permitted to undergo changes until the Paleocene epoch, which marks the point when mammals with placenta enter the stage. Before that, the greatest ice age was ending due to an enormous impact. Before that, insects, reptiles, and birds were among the major players. Before that, mostly fish and invertebrates were competing for food. Before that, the earth was cooling after its incredible collision with a smaller planet. Before that, the dust was clearing into the orbits around the sun. Before that, the gases were forming under gravity within the Milky Way. Before that, a large collection of hydrogen and helium were gathering as new atoms coalesced out of the Quantum reservoir. Before that, there was a pool of energy which the Spirit of the Lord Jesus moved across. Before that, there was no light. Before that, there was only God the Father. Before that, is not for human understanding. It offers no comprehensive knowledge about life. God has allowed us 14 billion years of understanding. If we are still having problems with that, perhaps pondering what went on earlier is meaningful only to the One who lived back then. Ahh, you're still wondering how humans, 10000 years of evolution, and the Bible fit together. The evidence is not conclusive, but Cain is sent away to be a wanderer after killing his brother. Cain is worried others will find him and kill him for it. Clearly, others had to have been around besides his parents. Some claim Eve gave birth that was not mentioned. I say, the three ice ages did not completely wipe out everyone. Later, Isaac's son Easu has hair like a young goat. Somehow, this never surprised Isaac or anyone else. I concluded others living nearby looked similar. Does any of this change the Scripture or my faith? No. God is from before time started until it will cease to have a meaning. He is eternal. I hope this helps.

As the man evolved and began to have his most physical needs filled( at least at the basic level), he felt the need for a different kind of fulfillment ie spiritual( not the religious variety as we know of).It is in the quest for this that he began to experiment with the concept of a power greater than what all he knew and kept on vesting that power with all the capabilities and qualifications which were way beyond him. This search led him to form, establish and propagate many cults, religions and rituals. It's not accurate to say that man invented a God but it's fairly accurate to say that he did conceptualize it or may be,discovered it. In answer to last part of your question,it's not known from a God came (if at all He came) and where did He go(if He really went anywhere)or where he is NOW(if He exists). It was always in the minds of people as an idea and is still there and shall continue to be there for God knows(Uncertainty) for how many years to come.Note:-The idea that there is a cosmic force or energy source far greater than humans is validated by science but could not be explained in scientific terms to be within our grasp as something akin to a God nor could any religion explain it in terms or a language which we can understand easily. It remains an enigma,a mystery and much more.Shall we leave it at this level?Well, let it be so,till some head way is made, hopefully during our life time.

The reason that you are having trouble with the fact that God always existed is because of the way the mind works and because of what you have been taught in school.
We are taught in science class that everything is caused by something else and that it in turn will cause something else to become. Obviously that is what happens most of the time but there is no proof that it happens ALL the time.
I don't know if you can grasp what I am going to say; most people can't. In reality (that which truly is and is independent of people perceiving it), there is no such thing as time.
Time is a useful abstract concept but it only exists in the mind, not in reality. People believe that there is such a thing as time because our minds have the ability to remember and to imagine.
In reality, there is only now, but things in the now are always changing. As soon as you try to catch ahold of something in the now, it's already in the past.
We think that there is such a thing as time because we remember the now as it was and we can imagine the now as it might become. Some people have called the fact that all things only exist in the now, The Eternal Now. The Eternal Now has also been compared to a razors edge.
God has always been. There was never a time when God was not. You can realize what the now is, but not by thinking or perceiving. You can realize the now by simply BEING.
If you let go of thinking and you let go of perceiving, then you simply are. You only exist in the now. You can also realize the now by exercizing your ability to concentrate your attention on a single external point, like the tip of a candle flame or the moving tip of the second hand on a clock.
When you have increased your ability to concentrate to the point that you can concentrate on the now to the exclusion of everything else, the past and the future will disappear (I have done this a number of times).
You Dad is right about everything you say he told you. Scientists teach the Big Bang and Evolution even though those things are not only not plausible, they are scientifically impossible!
I don't know if you have learned about the cell yet in Biology. The simplest form of life that can exist and reproduce is the cell. It has to have an external cell membrane that is semi-permeable (it has to keep the inside of the cell in, the ouside out, but let somethings move from the inside out and vice-versa).
Inside of the cell there has to be a nucleus. There has to be a semi-permeable membrane around the nucleus. Inside the nucleus there are very complicated strands of DNA that tell every part of the cell how to work.
The first cell also had to have the ability to reproduce itself. Cells are very fragile and if there was only one created it would have quickly been killed. Cells reproduce by a process known as mitoses. All of the strands of DNA, RNA and everything else in the nucleus is perfectly reproduced and travels to the other side of the nucleus.
Then the cell membrane and the nucleur membrane fold in on themselves with everything that was in the first cell, now in both of the 2 new cells. Scientists say that this very complex structure was created accidently when a stroke of lightening hit the ocean.
They will tell you that this lightening hit a bunch of amino acids and other things that are necessary for life. What they don't remind you of is that they taught you that in The Big Bang, this huge sun exploded and created everything in the universe.
In the beginning the earth (they say) was molten metal and rock that eventually cooled and a crust was formed over the earth. Then they say that as it continued to cool, it began to rain for years and that that rain was what caused the oceans. So according to the scientists, there was only metalic ore, rock, and pure water.
Now, amino acids can't appear before a living being exists because it is only living beings that can produce amino acids. So what the scientists are trying to get you to believe, is that lightening hit pure water ( just molecules of H2O)and caused this extremely complex form of a cell to just happen and for it to become alive!
This is clearly scientifically impossible. There are many other scientific proofs that neither The Big Bang or the accidental evolution of life ever happened. Why are the scientists saying these things? First of all not all scientists say these things are true but most of them do.
The only thing that I can figure out is that subconsciously, they want us to think that they are God and that they will SAVE us.
And of course, the more money in government grants they will get.
You sound like a very smart young woman who is trying to figure out what is true and what is not. I have taken all this time to try to explain some things because I care about you and about all young people.
I hate that some of the things that you are being taught in school are simply not true; and that the things they are teaching you make it hard for you to accept the truth that our Heavenly Father is real and that He loves us more than we are able to imagine.
If you think about it, it isn't that you can't accept that God always existed; it's that you can't IMAGINE that anything always was and had no beginning. The reason that you can't imagine that God always was is due to the fact that our minds and it's ability to imagine things is very limited.
God bless you. God has blessed you a lot that you have such a smart and Godly father. I didn't have a father when I grew up and had no one to teach me anything, I had to learn everything by trial and error and there were a lot of errors. Treasure your father. He is a huge blessing from God!

Where did God came from...hmm...does that matter? That's why believing Him is called "faith"...but if you insist on knowing...
Is there a higher being than Him? Weird stuff, but maybe there is. There is this theory I heard and I don't know what it is called but it states that for every grand design there is always a designer behind it. It's not plausible to say that it happened "accidentally". So that uhm..proves...God exist. More plausible that big bang eh? But where did God came from?
Actually, I don't know where He came and how it happened but the thing is, if He came to be created by another "God", would that matter? Would that "God" change this universe just because God created a crappy universe with stupid people? Will that "God" say to God "You are not so worthy as an apprentice, banish along with your personas and angels and your pitiful creations!"
Hold on to your faith dear. Believe me, almost all Christians ask the same thing. Even me.
I didn't answer your question, I just re-assured your faith.

God does not exist as a physical reality, otherwise we would be able to find Him. That does not mean there is no God. Science recognizes the Law of Cause and Effect. The physical part of anything is the effect, yet we know everything has a cause. Perhaps God whom we cannot detect is the cause and the physical universe is the effect.
Until we have a good comprehension of what God is, is it not rather pointless to dwell on where he came from. It kind of like looking at a circle, trying to figure out where the beginning is.

It doesn't make sense to say that God "always was", since time came into existence when the universe was born. Similarly, if God somehow created the universe *and is separate from it* (in some religions, God is a part of the universe), then he/she/it can't have spatial dimensions and can't have been created from anything.

God is eternal...He has always existed in Heaven. There is no time in Heaven. Time did not exist until He created it.. "In the beginning"... as it says in Genesis 1:1. It's hard for us humans to understand this concept since we are born and we die...we have a beginning and an end....but God is not bound by the laws of nature that He created. Even the Big Bang theory doesn't answer who started it or why, where matter and the laws of nature came from, how did things get organized so perfectly all by themselves and lots of other questions.

God is defined by that which was not created. He always existed because nothing created Him. He is the Creator, and had no cause so did not need need to be created. He is infinite, so there was never a point in time that he did not exist. That's the answer in a nutshell, but it doesn't exactly explain the why. Please read the link below-it explains this concept perfectly and should answer your question.
No Scripture was quoted in that link. It's entirely logical.
