I have recently purchased a german shepherd and he was big as a pup.
He is now 5 mo. old and weighs 60 lbs.
I am very concerned.
He eats twice a day, 14 oz. each meal with a biscuit.
He is perfect and has a waiting list of over five years for his pups because of his perfection. He is going to be bred to an amazing female, both German and all the pups will go for free to police, sheriffs. military, where they will save lives.
He is worth a fortune and I only want the best for his future.
His pups, once vetted will be fed, armoured and given what they need in order to save lives in the future.
He is already going for his BH and is definately the smartest dog I have ever had the priveledge to take stewerd of.
He could track at two months and although a hard dog, he is appropriate in every situation he has been in.
I am concerned about his size although his line is all OFA and OFEL excellent to good..
Please tell me if you know of any tips.
He is fearless. His name is Tank

First let me say that what you are going to do w/ the litter(s) is great! It is very hard to find good dogs anymore that are suitable for police work. Now to answer you question on weight.
I am a K9 handler for a major city, and in my unit we currently have a GSD that is about 72 lbs, and he is a dynamite dog. In the past we have had them in the 80-90 lb range, and they were agile and performed well. We had one in particular a few years back that was about 105 lbs or so. He was, in our opinion a tad heavy.

You should send me a video of "Tank" in action, I'd like to see him (bite work, pursuit, Buildings w/ slick floors, etc). Add me to your contacts and I'll give you the sending information.

I've got a female Lab that is coming up on six months and she weighs in at 60 pounds. She is going to be a tall, stout dog. She is healthy, active, alert, and chews everything she can get into her mouth. Your Shepard might top out on the heavy side for the breed; however, keep in mind that posted breed weights are averages. As long as your dog is doing well, I wouldn't worry too much.

Wow, Tank is huge for a 5 month old GSD. I have a sable shepherd who I do Schutzhund training with and she is 60lbs at 3 years old.

He could just be a big puppy. You can't tell how big a dog can get until they are around a year IMO. I don't think you have anything to worry about otherwise. He's just a um...Tank.

HAVE WORKED WITH SHEPARD'S OVER THE YEARS. MOST FEMALES WEIGH MORE THEN THE MALES IN ALL BREEDS.

MALE SHEPARD'S I HAD IN 1968 WERE 80-95 LBS AND FEMALES WERE 80-100 LBS.

HAD A CROSS BREADED SHEPARD AND GREAT DANE WEIGHT 135 LBS.
