soumya..why do you think people would believe you ..about disasters coming? I think they'd call you a kook. (that's what happens to most psychics or people with premonitions)

Coz...I don't understand how mind control can be used over general populations. I can understand how over 1 person or a group (religious usually)...but how over a general pop.??

S.I.C.K. You need to get your headaches checked out before you get into psychic things. They could give you an even bigger headache.

i think authentic psychic people feel they have a "calling"just like some people have a calling to be come a priest or rabbi.its true you dont have to study at the universities to be come [psychic because most psychics admit they are born with the talent.if you were born with the talent of becoming a pianist would you pursue that profession .i would.

The Military and CIA have undergone serious investigations into the matter and have concluded that paranormal behavior like psychic abilities, ESP, Clairvoyance, Telekinesis, and Levitation are a fact. Due to this reason, they have used the above mentioned in anti-war tactics to read the enemy's mind.
It has also been used for mind control over general populations in order to affect decision making. The only reason they would call you a 'Kook' is because you are on to the truth, and they do not want you to know the Truth...Get it?
Paranormal behavior will soon be a normal branch of Science.

That depends on their motivation. Some psychics or mediums are popular with people who want some type of closure or contact with those they have lost or have passed on.
According to a few stories; Sylvia Browne has given people false readings that have greatly reduced her credibility. I think it depends on the range of their ability or where the information comes from.
Imagine a well known psychic who helps the police to solve crimes and is than murdered over it. Or a known psychic that wins large amounts of money from mafia run casinos.
Having the advanced knowledge of disasters such as tomorrows headlines and not being able to stop it can also be a great burden when no one listens. Having the wisdom over an alleged ability or further foresight would be better.
There may be some psychics who have learned it's better to remain anonymous for their own protection.
According to one story: Nostradamus was supposedly in fear for his own life over his alleged ability from the Church. It's interesting that some or possibly even most religions are based on prophecy or alleged psychic abilities about the apocalypse and the end of the world.
But, if a psychic could see the so-called silver lining behind these disasters and a new and better world; than they may not feel so burdened unless they desperately want to calm everyone else over it.
People live and die in adverse conditions everyday somewhere and many of us already realize it but try not to think about it.Many people are also burdened by delusional thoughts and glimpses and believe their delusions and paranoid visions of the past, present and future are also real and that they are gifted.
So, it really depends on the person and the source of the information. Could you handle it?

Bottom line, money. Although many programs on court TV would have you believe that psychics regularly solve crimes, the reality is they there is no one with verifiable psychic ability.
There is an old saying that extraordinary claims require extraordinary proof.
While it would be nice to believe in the phenomen, there are several ways to think of this. Many people that appear on shows with John Edwards, or Sylvia Brown want to communicate with dead relatives. Just ask yourself this, if your mother or father, grandparent, or whomever choose and was able to communicate with you from the other side, why would they do it through a total stranger, and usually for a fee?
If my mother was trying to get a message to me, I would like to think that she could do a better job than Edwards standing up and saying I am getting a kathy or kathleen. . does this mean anything to anyone in the audience??
If the really had psychic ability, why don't they pick the lotto numbers and donate the money to charity? They always say the "Don't care about money" but is that why Sylvia Brown charges $700 for a half hour phone consultation?
If you believe that a psychic could really finger a murderer just from handling a picture or talking with a detective, why couldn't they have foreseen the crime and tipped the police off before the crime?
bottom line, it is a very lucrative trade, and as PT Barnum once said, "There is a sucker born every minute.
Wish it weren't so, but it is.

Being Psychic, people who really have it, don't really "flaunt" it. It is a burden.
Then on the other side, people who "Claim" to be psychic really aren't. Most of them make there living off of reading people and asking pretty common questions.
I have learned this from experience. I personally don't want to know about other peoples lives.
A true psychic, will not accept money for their readings, nor will they advertise their abilities. You see, it is supposed to be a gift, in essence they are selling themselves.
Think about it.

hehehehe...I don't. But I don't exactly have a choice in the matter. But I do believe that some people might want it because they want something that makes them special, they want to be able to do something that make them truly unique. When I first realized I had psychic gifts, that's about what I did, I told everybody I could a watered down (cause I'm just not a flashy person) "Lookee what I can do." Let's just say God's taught me his lesson and nowadays, I'd rather be "normal". Except I can't turn it off.
EDIT: something someone said reminded me.... I do feel a need to help people. But I also WANT to help people, and part of that just comes from the gift itself--I can feel other people emotions, their pain. I feel a need to help them where I can. But I also realize that God gave me this gift for a reason. I'm not quite sure what yet, but He'll tell me when He thinks I'm ready, I suppose.

You don't have a choice you either have it or you don't. And yes sometimes it sucks. I talked to this guy yesterday that is going to Iraq in a few weeks. He's not coming back, I just know it and there is nothing I can do about it. You spend a long time wondering about this stuff. I didn't sleep well last night. I wish I was better at this and could tell him not to go out on that day, and give him an exact time and day.

the fact of the matter is this, even on a small scale, the fame and notoriety that comes with doing something people consider strange or amazing is addictive. whether in front of millions or just family or friends, its an addiction and some people just crave the spotlight. Most truly gifted people in any arena don't like the spotlight. I say most, there are exceptions, but most prefer to sit in anonymity. Not drawing attention to themselves. The phrase "I Am" comes to mind.

Sometimes it's for the money. These people are scam artists.Usually people just want to be special or different. They feel this power gives them something others don't have. Some honestly believe they have some gift.Others are pretending. All are unable to demonstrate any abilities beyond a good magicians trick..This is my opinion, an answer to a direct question. It was not intentionally meant to insult anyone.

I would want to be able to read the minds of the ladies. You know, so I could learn whether or not I am wasting my time.
I would definitely want to be able to turn it off though, because it's taxing enough dealing with a woman who talks all the time. Having to listen to her thoughts as well might drive me batty. :P
Oh, sure I would do what it took to make this talent pay the bills, but for the most part I would try to use my superhero power to improve the world.
