So Joe,
Every CHristain knows the old testament is really a written history of the jewish people and shows us a vengeful God. Hence To be a true Christian you must follow the word of Christ, which introduces us to a much more loving, caring and compassionate God. To follow the word of Christ you must love all people and pray that non-believers will find Christ. DO you think that Jesus would be happy with another Human bashing(and yes I do mean, being mean and snotty) another. Did Jesus not heal leper and make an ignored crippled man walk. Both had lost faith, yet Jesus believed in them, spared them from their horrible situation, and gave them a reason to live(which would be for Jesus, Amen)

actually Mark 6:10 and Mark 6:11
ANd he said unto them,"In what place soever ye enter into a house, there abide till ye depart from that place. And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear you, When ye depart thence, shake off the dust under your feet for a testimonyagaints them. Verily I say unto you, it shall be more tolerable for Sodom and G-Mor-Rha in the day of judgement, than for that city.
So Jesus is basically saying that we should preach onto others and if they won't hear us, dust them off, don't worry about them, in the end they will get their and it will be really, really bad.

You cannot use the old testament to show of Jesus's love. Try to find Qoute in the new testament where Jesus tells us to basically hate others and I might be interested inwhat you have to say Joe.

Jesus made the ultimate Sacrifice, Himself. And that was all in the name of tolerance and forgiveness.

Toadaly I don't think you read the question right. I agree with you. What you are talking about is most unchristian, and I am talking about people being unchristian as well.
As for me not being a true believer, I am a believer and God knows it, so I don;t care what you think Wally.

Sorry. I am a real Christian. I follow the teachings of Christ and when ever I am unsure, I think "What would Jesus do?"

Hoe, I am not saying that the old testament should be ignored, what I am saying is God was a new father at that time, and God realized it wasn't working. Jesus was born and God became different. God matured as a father and so some of his ways had changed and a way to show that was through Gods' son Jesus.

"Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: For their's is the kingdom of heaven" Mathew 5:10
and yes Jesus did say
"Think not tha I am come to destoy the law or the profits: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfill. Mathew 5:17, but Jesus also said
"Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not kill; and whosoever shall kill will be in danger of the judgement: Mathew 5:21
"But I say unto you, that whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgement: and whosoever is angry with his brother, Ra'-ca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire." Mathew 5:22
But I say onto you love your enemies, bless them that curse you,do good to themthat hate you, and pray for them that despitefully use you, and persecute you." Mathew 5:44

I don't like religion but I do like Jesus and I do notice that many people don't follow his teachings. I wish more people had your attitude. If you like Jesus' teachings you might like Sidhartta Guatama (Buddha (he was just a man not a god so learning his beliefs would not go against your beliefs)) he had pretty much the same message. It's very interesting.

I suppose they feel justified because it says so in a book that was written hundreds of years ago. I am a witch, and my answers get plenty of bashing, funny thing is, I do not bash Christians for what they believe, it is their right. I will quickly point out if they are showing ignorance of others beliefs when they try to come across as knowing all there is to know about religions other than Christianity. If I don't know I don't make suppositions or judgments based on what I may have heard somewhere by someone who is not an authority on the issue. The 700 club not withstanding. Now there is an authority on bashing!!

Yeshua ben Yoseph, otherwise known as the mythical 'Jesus Christ' from the bible, died 2000 years ago, was not involved in the writing of the bible. Not a single person who knew jesus was alive when the old testament was rewriten from the jewish texts and the new testament was created in mid 200AD, thus you are learning morality and ethics, not the 'teachings of Jesus'.
Now, belief is a personal standpoint wrought with emotion. The reason why people battle over the topic of religion is because it is not based on logic. Logic says that two conflicting theories can exist, one is right, the other is wrong and is settled through scientifically disproving one or the other.
On the other hand, if two people from different religions (or none - atheism) sit down, both of their beliefs are contrary to the other, and they both believe that theirs is infalliable and without fault.
I can debate religion until the cows come home, but I do acknowledge from the start that I have no intention of converting the other person, regardless of their intent towards converting me.

I think some people are being... over zealous in trying to convert people to their beliefs. Unfortunately they often give people the wrong impression of Christianity(or whatever religion they are representing, I've seen this go both ways) and will a lot of the time do more harm than good. I never had the need to challenge or diminish other people's beliefs, the best I can do is present to them my own beliefs and listen to theirs.

I think, alot of time, Christians are trying to convert other people by preaching there beliefs. I know as a Christian, i'm not necaessarily angry at people with other beliefs, but if i cant show them that their belief is wrong, they'll never believe that Jesus is right. If they see no problem with their religion, they wont change, and then they'll go to hell. its really that simple, in my eyes.

If you mean by bash - evangelising - then each Christian can do this as s/he wishes. If you mean be rude and nasty - I agree this is not the way. But then many react violently just to quotes from Scripture.

There is no need to bash anyone and we need to tell others who are doing things wrong and let them see for themselves. Jesus even corrected the Pharisees and Sadducee's and the scribes. So maybe you just like to be all accepting of anything but not to stick to the Word Of God. The is no watering down of Scriptures and Gods word will judge us all

Why preface your question with a solemn indicator of your beliefs?
Aside from that, I suppose it has something, if not everything, to do with saving those people from an eternity of hell, and of scoring points for their afterlife.

the Old Testament is not to be ignored. Its laws should indeed be adhered to, for the New Testament demands it!
Jesus strongly approves of the law and the prophets. He hasn’t the slightest objection to the cruelties of the Old Testament:
"Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets. I have come not to abolish but to fulfill. Amen, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest part or the smallest part of a letter will pass from the law, until all things have taken place." (Matthew 5:17 NAB)
You must kill those who worship another god. Exodus 22:20
Kill any friends or family that worship a god that is different than your own. Deuteronomy 13:6-10
Kill all the inhabitants of any city where you find people that worship differently than you. Deuteronomy 13:12-16
Kill everyone who has religious views that are different than your own. Deuteronomy 17:2-7
Kill anyone who refuses to listen to a priest. Deuteronomy 17:12-13
Kill any false prophets. Deuteronomy 18:20
